Preserving Patina ? Oil?? Old suffolk punch lawnmower :)

Ive spent the weekend sorting out the garage and getting an old suffolk punch running..

Its the late 60's colt style one with the clutch lever so it can be pushed or self propelled.
I had planned on paiting it up and making it real nice, But its got such great aged patina, And starts up realy well. It seems pointless to cover up all that history.


I'm trying to think of something i can use to preserve the rusty/ flakey burnt look , possibly an oil of some type?

I don't want to clear coat it, As it gets quite hot and i know it wont prevent rust bubbling and getting worse...

Ill get some pics up too. 

I'm going to use it to replace my newish mountfield as the plastic carb keeps melting due to the fuel...  And i don't want to get yet another replacement.

The punch needed

*new ht lead
*rebuid carb
*clean plug
*new fuel tap
*new clutch

Get a tin of briwax which is a furniture wax. Apply with some fine wire wool or cloth and buff off when it dries.

I've been preserving my Acty van's rusty paint with Ankor wax, painted on with a brush, and buffed off. tt's used a lot in the VW car scene and was recommended to me by a couple of trustworthy sorts. So far it's been 2 and a half months and the rust has not got any worse. Apparently it's much better if you spray it on.

ive used linseed oil for this, just paint it on and it dries over a few days to be like a lacquer
