NOTE: eventually I will get all the broken image links fixed. Tis a big job. Consider this a reboot, I'm not going to hunt down all my old threads because that'll take forever and if people need to find them they can. Instead, I'm just going to link to my two recent cars' old threads and go from there, here. Former location of threads: Citroen Xantia - retrorides.proboards.com/thread/168593/1997-xantia-9td-estate-weldified#.VCHFpZSfvW41980 Austin Princess - retrorides.proboards.com/thread/123005/1980-austin-princess-grand-day#.VCHGDpSfvW4I'll just combine any further car exploits into this one thread for convenience, no need to go merging stuff together or any of that. I'll eventually find all the threads I was following and repopulate my bookmarks but goodness me that's going to take some time! Big apologies for the inconvenience for those that were following.

Glad it's nothing serious. I re registered using my old username and email address and although it reset my post count, all my pre strop threads are still findable through my profile.

Thinking colours again, because there's not much else I can do with the Princess at the moment. I do keep coming back to purple, but I can't shift the desire to also own a pink car one day. There are some pinks I really like, but they're not the 'Powered By Fairydust' type of colours which I think would look wrong on the Princess. The pinks I really like have a grey-ish look to them, sometimes verging on lilac or lavender. The first choice would be the superb Jaguar Heather Pink as seen on this little Lotus. While Heather Pink sits well on a large car, it sits best on one with some curves which is not something the Princess is blessed with. I'm concerned that Heather Pink might make the Princess look like it's made out of poorly made fibreglass. What can help here is a bit of sparkle to really pull out the sharp edges of a body design, which leads me neatly on to Cadillac's Heather which sits very nicely in the pink-lavender-grey triangle and goes excellently with a splash of chrome. In the same vein, Ford's Amethyst Pink would work nicely and this is a colour I've admired for looking exactly like nail polish in person. There's enough similarity in the body shapes on the Escort for me to think it would work, just, and it definitely looks good with a black interior and silver wheels as demonstrated below. This is just me thinking out loud really. Feel free to suggest your own pinks or to disagree with me. We all know it's going to take me YEARS to get to the painting stage at this rate.

I vote no pink. The Princess is such an iconic 70's shape that pinks (50's) will just look jarring. Better a lime yellow or even the aforementioned purple, but, definitely from the palate of the era!

Vote 2 for no pink. I liked the purple you tried a while back... stick with it.

Try "Orchid Metallic" which was seen on a few Holdens of the late 60's/early 70's. Namely the Torana XU-1 and the HQ Monaro.. But in keeping with BleyLAND of the time, I think the beige suits it.

PHEW, you're still here...!!!!!
I'd have to say no with regards to the pink paintwork... I just think it'll be too 'delicate' for the wedge-tastic Princess. The purple you'd set your heart on before would look much better and more in keeping with the car. Please stick with purple!!!

scicloneOrchid Metallic is maybe a bit too pink for this application, though it's a great colour and I do really like it. Your Holden suggestion did bring me to a colour I really do like, though it's more purple than pink which is Ultra Violet. Omnomnom. doobieThis one? It's not too disimilar to the Aconite purple I keep coming back to. There is a purple-grey colour that you see on a Japanese mini-box type car but I can't remember what it's called and can't find an example of it, that could be the one you mean.

grifter: was I ever really away? But yeah, I don't want something too delicate, but not all pinks are delicate.

Yeah... I'm wanting to be the other end of the spectrum to these in this instance. Give me the right car to put it on and I'd have one of these colours any day of the week.

I think that even a vibrant/shocking pink would look alien on your Princess sir...
A super-seventies 'Custom Car' style job would be the kind of thing that I think you're thinking of(?) but I'd have to say that restraint(ish!) needs to be excercised on the Princess as it is one of those shapes that could look insanely good or insanely bad dependant on the colour choice...
I think that by sticking with the purple you had settled on, coupled with some accents of other colours here and there would be the way to go...
Why not go with the Aconite as a body colour and then contrast the roof with one of the pinks you've shown us above...?! I reckon that that could nail it square on...!!!!!!! What was the shade of Pink that BL used for the 20th anniversary Mini in '79? That could be a go-er 'accent' wise...
Anyhow, at the end of the day this is your car and whatever you choose will be just fine as it's YOUR choice on YOUR car and none of us can argue against anything like that...!

Had to look that special Mini up, I'd say it's a bit on the brown side for what I'm after and does put me in mind of the better Reynard metallic that some Princesses did come in originally. I like the 35th anniversary Mini colour better. but I like darrenh's suggestion of Silk Violet better yet. Certainly lots of food for thought here so far and I've learned about some new colours I like that I didn't know about before.
