It pains me to do this but my 82 MG Metro Turbo is up for sale. It is a project that has been to one side waiting for other project cars to be done, however the property they are stored on is being sold and we may not have anywhere to store all of them. A bit of a sore point, but here it is:
So it’s an original Mk1 Metro Turbo, possibly the earliest left in the country (registered 06/12/82) but I can’t guarantee that it is the earliest, it’s the earliest from all the ones I have seen on the road though. These are really rare cars now, particularly the early Mk1 version like this.
It has been in my family since about 1992 (it was my grans car!) it was taken off the road for no reason in 1996, partially stripped and has been stored outside ever since. Therefore it is very rusty, this is a project for a die hard Metro fan that knows how to weld!
It is original and complete with all of its original parts:
• the original radio is still fitted
• 98k on the clock
• Original un rebuilt engine
• Factory fit cruise control
• dealer fit sunroof
• original breakdown care sticker in the windscreen
• 80’s goodmans speakers in the back shelf (spare undamaged shelf included)
• there are genuine floor overmats (grey with red edging, drivers heal pad has the ‘MG’ symbol)
• I have its original owners books in my bedroom along with a stack of paperwork, I seem to remember the instructions for the radio being there too
How it basically currently stands:
• all front panels stripped off minus bonnet
• engine still fitted, but radiator, alternator and other small bits removed
• Interior stripped minus dash, headlining and door cards
• All arches and bumpers removed
The major rot it has:
• Both front floors need replacement, this extends into the inner sills
• Both inner wings have crusty bits so will need repair, the lower ‘A’ post needs repair
• ‘A’ posts need repair, the passenger side looks particularly horrible
• Top of ‘C’ post into the roof skin is shot, so this needs repair
• The rear panel below the lights is bubbling
The good bits:
• The bonnet is solid, with some light rust, it has always had a tarpaulin covering from the windscreen down
• Comes with four unused pattern front wings, the original wings are
• Comes with a genuine used spare driver’s door, not perfect but not too much to repair (this and the below from the garage leaking!)
• Comes with two genuine used tailgates, these are complete with locks, motors etc. They will need repair (as above) but better than the current
• There is a box of new pattern repair panels in the boot
• The seats were removed in 1996, washed dried and dry stored in the attic, apart from some very slight drivers bolster wear these are perfect to use, just need a hoover and reassembling. The marks in the pictures is dusty stuff!
• The carpets and over mats were also dry stored with the seats
So what there is is a complete original rusty car that’s disassembled, plus these are the spares:
• 4 new pattern wings
• 2 original used tailgates
• 1 original used drivers door
• Box of assorted repair panels (I believe front headlight area panels and jacking points)
• 1 original used carpet set
• 1 spare grill
• 2 spare headlights
• 1 spare uncut parcel shelf
• 3 late spec turbo alloys
• 1 front windscreen
• Plus other assorted odds and ends
We’re looking for someone who will restore this back to its former glory, we will be very sad to see it go, I do feel I should rectify the state its got into! If circumstances change and we find somewhere to dry store it I will update the add and keep it.
Price: £750
I know the price is steep for a rusty Metro, but given the spares included, value in parts, value these sell for now, fact we would like to keep it and earliness of the car, I think the price reflects this.
