Lovely wee thing. I've heard of them but don't know much about them - how do they differ from the normal GTti?

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Love it, good luck with the build. Not so popular over here but our antipodean friends seem to enjoy them. Front bumper looks like it was made for a FMIC protruding out of it.

Am I the only one that saw "De Tomaso" in the title and thought somebody had shoehorned a 351ci Cleveland V8 into a Charade?
Looks like a cracking little car, especially with a tuned engine and LSD.
Looking forward to further updates.

They have quite a following in Australia and have won loads of rallies. I was tempted to turbo it but thought I may as well use the spare engine I have

A 5.7 litre V8 up front might spoil the handling a little!
I don't remember ever having seen one of these before, in fact, I don't remember seeing any of your shape Charade, until a 5door one driven by a myopic pensioner nearly ran me over (on a zebra crossing!) this morning.
Are your wheels standard? They look like Azev's...
The Metro in the garage looks interesting, especially in the rally war-paint - what've you got planned?

It's a Japenese only import and they are very rare in the UK. The UK had a GSXI version, same engine just without the LSD and less power. Also didn't have the same styling. The wheels are standard and have the Detomaso logo in the center. I rate daihatsu's highly its a shame they didn't have good marketing skills and most of the cars are ugly. The metro in the garage is my metro turbo which I have lost the enthusiasm to finish so it's waiting for some motivation(and cash!)

Not 100% sure about the rear spoiler, but everything else about the car looks the business - and nice and subtle too - proper little sleeper.
The red charade mk.1 in the background of your photos proves you caught the Daihatsu bug pretty bad! I remember seeing quite a few of them in my younger days, but you're right, they never got their marketing right in the UK. Apart from the off road stuff.
If it helps with the motivation, I can't wait to see what you do with the Metro, from the photo it looks like you've got pretty much a blank canvas!
For maximum geek points, is that a Camry lurking under the tarp?!

...and those centre caps are spot on! I'm off to Google DeTomaso - there must be an interesting story of how a niche Italian supercar manufacturer came to be acquired by a Japanese car company that apparently specialised in mud-pluggers!
Keep the posts coming - what's the interior like ?

Cool car this! I expected the Italian-made rebodied Mini, the Innocenti De Tomaso Turbo. By the way, Charade is a reference to a track in Auvergne nearby which I used to live, a portion of it can be driven nowadays. Good luck with the engine build! Thread bookmarked

I bought the gtti first (I actually bought another one before but was super rotten) gtti is a great car, drove it to Venice last year via the nurburgring and stelviopass. Under the cover is actually a gtm coupe with it's in the air. It now has a charade gtti engine... The interior of the detomaso is really nice but it's in poor condition unfortunately. Has a very good quality nardi steering wheel, recaro seats and a red carpet!

Thread bookmarked Thanks I've never heard that before. Would be fun to go drive it. It is the Italian designer detomaso which used to be innocenti

Complete with radiator behind the passenger seat, as you do!
I thought the spoiler must be factory - I think I'd prefer it without, but what a nice package all told. 16 valves, Slippy diff, Nardi wheel, Recaro pews.... I'd bet you nail on a turbo before you're done.....As someone said earlier, that bumper is just begging for a FMIC.
And what an ace road trip. I think more photos are called for!
This car gets a big thumbs up from me. And the GTM just proves how badly you've got the Daihatsu bug.

Are they Bini wheels on the red one? Looks good.
