Hi all,
I am regrettably putting my E34 up for sale. She's been a faithful old girl over the last ten months but I just don't use it that much any more and I need to throw a bit of money at my MX5.
I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. Please don't insult me with offers of scrap value or ask me what my lowest price is. If you're interested come and view it and if you then want it, make an offer.
I bought this car on Christmas Eve last year from a chap on these very forums. What greeted me when I went to view was a tired looking E34 with heavily faded paint, horrid tinted lights, a 525i badge and a very blowy exhaust. I obviously bought it.
Since then I've replaced the exhaust system, refitted some standard lights (I still have the nasty ones if you fancy it), replaced a dented door, replaced the battery, removed the alarm and immobiliser after it failed and removed the badge. The replacement door isn't a 100% match but it's only really noticeable in direct sunlight. It certainly looks better than it did.
The replacement exhaust system wasn't the highest quality item available but it has done the trick and everything from the downpipe back has been replaced, so there should be no major concerns there for a little while. The front droplinks need replacing I think.
The car has had many hours of polishing lavished upon it, to the point where the paint actually looked glorious, but unfortunately it didn't last and the paint has faded again. It is, however, nowhere near as bad as it was before and aside from the bonnet and roof the paint has come up very nicely indeed. This car also benefits from being the pre-facelift, so there's no hidden-under-the-side-skirts rot to worry about - what you see is what you get, and what you see is no rust at all.
The 15" BBS wheels are in excellent condition with half decent tyres fitted. I'd say they have 2-3000 miles left in them before they're at the wear markers.
The full leather interior is in good overall condition, with no tears or burns to the seats, just some nice age related wear (exactly how leather should be). The door cards needed resticking and glue didn't work, so I self tappered them into place - it is hard to tell that this is what I've done. The roof lining is a tad saggy and could do with a clean. There is a piece of trim missing next to the DIN slot - I have no idea what happened to this as it used to be there and one day it was not!
I suppose the biggest issue with this car as it stands is that the gearbox is whining. It has been doing it for a few months now and I still have absolute faith that the car will get me wherever I want to go, but for the sake of full disclosure it should be mentioned. There is also a leak from the gearbox, I'd wager these two things are related.
I have a lot more than £350 in this car and am rather sad to be selling it, but I just don't know why I have it at the moment when there are other things I should and could be spending the money on. I would just leave it sat but that seems like a terrible shame when it's a perfectly usable car. Certainly, having driven all generations of the 5 series except for the E12 and E60, I'd rank the E34 as my favourite all round experience and certainly I will be buying one again in the future. But now isn't that time.
Grab this before prices shoot up. I sold a mint Jaguar XJ40 for £500 a few years ago and an almost mint Porsche 924 for £950 about 18 months ago. Buying a car off me is almost a guarantee that prices will rocket in 6-12 months.
Apologies for the poor quality photographs.
