I have a 2.0 pinto capri that i use everyday but has started hesitating and almost cutting out as soon as the throttle is touched. It does it all of the time so it makes driving in traffic very jerky.
I have read that it could be the points, but my question is, it has sierra electronic ignition (with the distributor) do these still use points in the distributor and do i need sierra or capri points or does it not matter?
Thanks

Electronic IGN doesn't have points i'd be checking for an air leak first (crank breather under the manifold, servo vac hose or dizzy advance tube), then dirt in the carb or carb jets, then a split accellerator diaphram.

Good info from Bortaf.
The Sierra ESC system that's been retro-fitted to your Capri dispenses with the points, so you can cross that off the trouble-shooting list. The Pinto engine was fitted in a heap of Ford vehicles, but the Sierra got a very basic electronic ignition system which was easy to retro-fit to other Pinto-engine Fords. It was a nice mod back-in-the-day.
Air-leak (as Bortaf already suggests) can also be caused by loose-fitting carb/dodgy carb-gaskets. Anything else carb-related can be checked with a carb strip and rebuild, which surprisingly isn't that big a deal.

Thankyou for the tips,Ii was hoping it would be a quick fix as its a daily driver, looks like a weekend carb rebuild is required.
