Morning, I was meant to be getting married at the start of next year, so my friends and I were all looking forward to the stag do! Unfortunately that all went tits up so we have been left without a stag do I have always wanted to do the Scumrun (used to be called the Scumball) and thought it would be the ideal replacement for the aforementioned stag do. I had a word with my closest mates and the decision was made that we were doing it For those of you that haven't heard of it before, the gist of it is that you buy a car for a maximum of £500. You can then spend whatever you like on getting it "ready" for its trip. The Scumrun is a 5 day event driving across Europe. Lots of drinking and challenges are all part of it and the organisers try and swing past a racetrack on the route so everyone's £500 beasts can show what they're made of. So, we have entered our team and now we just need to find a car. I have suggested the Mk1 Metrocab that is currently advertised on here and I'm just waiting for everyone to come back to me with a yay or nay. I will try to keep this updated as and when we buy a car and start preparing it etc. If anyone has done it before or has any car suggestions please feel free to offer advice Cheers, Sammo

Sounds fun I'd be looking for one of these picked up last weekend off ebay for £511, and its the 250 BHP aero HOT version so should be a giggle out on the track, comfiest seats and it eats up the miles

Haha I love that VW-DMC Derocco Might be worth keeping an eye out for a cheap Jag XJ40, X300 or X308. They're very comfy cruisers and a bit of a laugh round a track, especially without traction control

Wow, all that way in a Regal Supervan? Now they are superheroes! Took the words right out of my mouth! Most of the cars which do these rallies look waaay too modern, reliable and comfortable, to be honest. 'Banger rallies', in my eyes, need to be done in proper old snotters which won't survive another MOT, are unpredictable in their reliability and look rough as rats. Or maybe I'm just old fashioned?! I'd rock the Delorean 'Rocco, though

Wow, all that way in a Regal Supervan? Now they are superheroes! Yeh, too right, I know the guy who drove it. On the second day we went over the Pyrenees, most cars did the day in about 6 hrs, it took them 11. The best bit was 'Uncle Albert' didn't take his duffle coat off the whole trip & it was about 35 degrees & he was in the back of the van !

A few more from Benidorm or Bust I'de use the MFP inspired Cortina as a daily let alone a banger rally car! But why does it look way sharper (square edged angles wise) than I remember them looking? Is it just me?

1979 FORD CORTINA GHIA, but i think its one of the first mkV (cortina 80) which came out in Aug 79, and its got a twin headlight swop, with a lower body kit around the sills

Do it!!.....I did the Mongol rally in 2006 in a £200 '72 beetle....awesome fun! Now we`re talking! This is something that I have wanted to do for years, but simply don`t have the mechanical know how to risk driving a snotter all the way to Mongolia without any back-up! Must`ve been a great laugh tghough.....

Being stranded in the middle of the desert, 200 miles from the nearest village while you cry away your precious bodily fluids over the fact that your rear axle has just fallen off is what adventures are made of.
