Hi all; I came across this forum recently and thought I'd share my somewhat 'retro' Peugeot 106. I realise that it's significantly younger than some great examples on here but bearing in mind that the 106 is taking its leave in order to make way for its contemporary equivalents - the 107 and more recently the 108 - it seems appropriate. Moving on; as stated it's a 1997 Peugeot 106 in Diablo Red which my father bought used in early 2001. I took ownership in late 2011 and I can't really see myself selling it any time soon given the memories we've shared throughout the past thirteen years not to mention the fact that I'm in my early twenties and the concept of economical motoring the 1.5D powertrain offers is very appealing. And I know many people think that any sort of French metal is scrap but honestly it's never given us any trouble other than your usual cases of wear and tear. With regard to styling and interior I'm trying to keep it as OEM as possible with only a few subtle modifications. Most noticeable is probably the re-trimmed factory seats and door cards inserts. Other than that all its had done to it is some smoothing and a Laguna splitter. As for suspension it has been lowered -60mm up front with your average lowering springs over uprated shocks and roughly -30mm at the rear; torsion bar for the win. Unfortunately it is slightly lacking in the wheels department due to the rather unpopular PCD; there is a limited choice of quality wheels but the majority of which are out of reach for me at the moment which is why it's been rolling on two alternating sets of factory steelies for quite some time. Couple of shots; However I have recently purchased a set of 'proper' alloy wheels which I am in the process of prepping for paint. They may be Compomotive MO5 knock-offs but the fact that the company which made them is virtually obsolete makes them somewhat interesting. Trial fitting shot; One may also notice the recently wrapped fog lamps for that bit of added frenchness but anyway that's all I have for now. Hopefully I'll have some updates to share in the coming weeks; thanks for reading.

Love 106 Diesels! Had an early 1.4D which had done 160,000 miles when I bought it. I put 20,000 on her in a year, sold to friend who took it to over 200K! Had a 1.5D which is much better engine but still foot to the floor in every gear to keep up with traffic driving! Great cars

Do you have pics of the interior?
New wheels look good. Although, I reckon some 15/16" alloys from a 307 with low profile tyres could have a nice styling impact on the 106.

Loving those wheels! Car looks great, the laguna splitter suits it Thanks mate I've just had a poke around your 5 TL's thread; very nice! wish my 106 had looked this good Thank you; I appreciate it considering they're a dime a dozen and I'm over here treating it like royalty! It is rather underpowered but economy is a major plus since it's a daily. 200K+? I've never seen that done in a 106! Mine's only on 83K+ but I do want to see it through to at least 100K. Do you have pics of the interior? New wheels look good. Although, I reckon some 15/16" alloys from a 307 with low profile tyres could have a nice styling impact on the 106. This is the only shot I could find; I've since swapped the disintegrated two-spoke steering wheel for a three-spoke one off of a 306. I see what you mean. The problem is since it's a five-door flatarch most wheel styles don't suit it; in my eyes at least. The only OEM alloy wheels I would consider are 15in Cyclones or Speedlines but I honestly prefer the 13in wheel/tyre ratio at the moment; they look 'right' in my eyes not to mention road surfaces where I'm from aren't exactly low-profile tyre friendly. I've bent 13in wheels with profile 65 tyres on more than one occasion!

I do agree about the flat arch thing. It looks a bit feminin. When I had my phase I Roland Garros, I was looking at the 16" alloys offered on the 1007. You would need 165/45R16 tyres to go on This gives a little bit of stretch, but combined with a decent lowering it would look very good. But if you can't drive it that way, it would be a little bit point less

It's an interesting choice although I still couldn't picture them on the 106 especially with profile 45 tyres which unfortunately would be pointless for daily use. I appreciate the input though

Bit of an update; had the 'proper' alloy wheels sandblasted so as to have a fresh base for paint which I will be doing myself at a steady pace. Quick shot;

I really like it on the steel wheels as it is, I'm still considering whether to get similar on my 309 (banded with a Crome rim) or to change to pepper pot alloys.
Have to say it looks really smart! Did you do the interior yourself?
Keep the photos and updates coming!

I saw this gem on the PFC Facebook page a few weeks ago; The interior I took apart myself but had to hand it over to a professional for the re-trim. Worth every penny though; much better than the 'funky' factory trim. Looks superb on those steelies! Honestly the best 106 I have seen, looks class! Thank you I will be keeping the steelies just in case the new alloy wheels don't pan out.

Not much of an update but anyway; I finalised one of the 'proper' alloy wheels, bolted it to the car and wasn't impressed so they have been sold on to make way for a new set of alloy wheels. Couple of shots; 15in Indianapolis IIs with good tires off a mate's XSI; quite pleased despite being a bit rough around the edges. Plan is new tyres all round and possibly a change of colour.

Well it's been a while... Not much to report since the last time I posted on here but here goes a short update anyway; plan for new tyres all round and a colour change for the Indianapolis IIs was carried out as planned. Quick shot; Other than that I've just been sourcing genuine replacement parts for a major overhaul which will see the 106 garaged for some time so I'm on the lookout for a cheap runaround to keep me mobile. I've been browsing the local classifieds for over a month now and I think I may have found a right gem; 954cc of pure amusement which I will be viewing in the coming days and if everything checks out it'll be parked outside my front door by midweek.
