So I've always fancied a TVR ever since I was a small child (don't ask me why) and I've seen a TVR 280s, that is just about in my price range, I've done a little bit of research but they seem very rare so information is quite scarce, does anyone have tips or advice on what to look for? Obviously the chassis but any places in particular? Anything else I should look at? From what I'm told the interior isn't standard and needs work, and the engine 'has seen better days', but from what I understand this is either the 2.8 Cortina engine or sierra (or maybe these are the same? Not too clued up on Fords of that age) so there are no issues there if it needs a rebuild. It does sound a bit of a nail but that's why it's in my price range! Thanks in advance

2.8 cologne V6 all iron, pushrod 12-valve engine as fitted to Sierra, Granada and Capri (Cortina was only offered with the 2.3 carb fed version).
Spaceframe style backbone chassis I believe.
I'd quite like a go in one myself.

The 2.8 isn't very powerful for it's size and doesn't like to rev, but it's bulletproof and sounds nice. 160bhp and (I assume) less than a ton should be pretty good fun?

Better engines out there than the old Cosworth lump now. If you're happy to go aftermarket management go and buy one of those 'rare' manual Jaguar S-types that litter ebay each month. All alloy 3.0ltr V6 with variable valve timing and 240bhp standard. In fact, someone has already done it to a Vixen I beleive with very god results.

Until a TVR aficianado appears..... pretty basic cars mechanically. Engine from various Ford models as Smiler says. Spaceframe chassis, perhaps technically speaking, more a back-bone chassis, with outriggers. And in this era of TVR, it's the outriggers that can become the problem, IIRC. Suspension largely Ford based with TVR wish-bones IIRC. GRP body, so no rust, but watch for crazing to indicate crash damage. Read 'tricky to repair'. Interior is bespoke, but likely raided the Fords parts-bins for switch-gear. Like kitcars, the electrics can become the puzzle. The 280s seems unloved among the TVRs, but what's not to love about a V-block RWD British specialist car?

I used to have one fun to drive and go well but softly sprung and very tail happy . No power streering so a bit heavy on the spot . Leak in for england i used to sit on a plastic bag as the seat foam is glued to the floor and soak everything up . Dodgy electrics due to damp and bad earths Also check the bottom of the footwells as these scrape on the floor with the soft suspension and wear away i had to glass mine up . You can get a V8s if the V6 isant quick enough but i thought mine was great and it howlled through the stright through stainless exhaust
