All gadgets are smart phone related nowadays so it won't be long before some kind of de-icer container tube that mounts to your windows and can be activated via your smart phone to get your car ready to drive without leaving the house is available. Had a wee shot of a new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV yesterday. Felt crazy driving around in electric mode with no engine noise. The owner has an app on his phone so he can "start" it up to heat and demist without leaving the house! My Townace has to make do with the fact that you can remove the key with the engine running and lock the doors so it can warm up /demist lol My winter plan is to stick the winter tyres on the Townace and put the snow chains in the boot of the BMW just incase lol

I intend to get my short wheel based, RWD car with more power than it should have back and drive it VERY VERY carefully.
Also my Daily is a Volvo, I fear no snow.

If we do have the "worst winter in 100 years" the first modification I shall be doing is to eat my hat.

In all seriousness, one of the best winter tips I've ever got was to rub a bit of vaseline or similar on the door seals, stops them from freezing to the door and tearing when forced open.
For everything else I have a Range Rover. Worst winter ever... Bah.

I'll be leaving the car at home and taking the GasGas I reckon. Thermals will be donned as standard.

Well the PH side of me wants to rush out and buy a 4X4 with winter tyres so i can save many nuns and many many kittens, i may even save a few nuns carrying kittens but i feel the chances of saving kittens carrying nuns is rather low The RR side of me will just do what it allways does, lower the pressures in my all weather tyres, drive accordingly and waft past all the mongs in there 40K+ 4X4s stuck in ditches and 1 inch of snow same as i do every year and just get on with it, i meen i carry cable ties AND gaffa tape so what is going to stop me eh? EH !

First thing ill do is wish I still had the Lada, then ill get in the micra which has always been great in the snow, and hope for the best. If i manage to get as far as getting it off the drive then ill look forward to the rollercoaster hill down to work and probably drive with my eyes closed and my fingers crossed.

It seems nowadays you can't read a newspaper, magzine or blog between October and march without reading how vital winter tyres are, yet I can barely remember hearing of them ten years ago. My parents have both been driving 50+ years, mostly in cheap old cars and never, to my best knowledge, fitted winter tyres and yet they've both avoided spinning off into ditches every year.
As for me, I don't commute regularly, so if (!!!) it does snow I'll probably switch to my thicker socks and slippers, and feel quite smug whilst watching other drivers over rev their engines, spinning tyres etc.

It would be good if people could be taught how to drive on snow, muddy fields and hills... Judging by the rate of clutch smell and wheel spins at The Gathering with our very modestly wet grass it seems to be something that the youth of today aren't taught.

Judging by the rate of clutch smell and wheel spins at The Gathering with our very modestly wet grass it seems to be something that the youth of today aren't taught. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If basic skid control etc was taught we wouldn't have half the chaos on the roads in poor weather! That and the bloody housewives walking their 'precious ones' to school, instead of driving the 3/4 mile journey in an XC90 IF it snows (which I seriously doubt) it'll be the first time I haven't had a 4x4 in 5 years. I was invincible in that. lol. Only actually needed 4WD a couple of times. However, I don't have that now, so if the roads get bad I'll have to stay at home, cos the pick is RWD and weighs about 50KGS on the back axle, the Vitesse is far too low, with tyres that are too wide and a snappy throttle. My best hope is my E320CDi estate, but that now wears 9.5" wheels and low pro tyres, so I'm not holding out much hope for that either. (Unless I refit the original 15's) Maybe I should just commandeer my Dad's GilOndaGutti trials bike?!

Bad weather, I will rejoice with my Land Rover even if the heater is questionable so extra jacket on.

I'll be putting a slightly less worn set of road tyres on my Discovery and use that regardless of what weather happens, I don't care if/when someone piloting an out of control Audi/BMW/Jaguar on performance tyres hits me then

i would end up wishing i still had this, half the price of a disco and just as usefull although i wished it was a 2.3 diesel instead of a 2.0 petrol my current daily will probably be useless so a decent pair of boots or wellies may be on order.
