Hi All, After many a long month looking after moving on my MX5 MK1, I drove all the way to Glousoscestershire yesterday with very little cash to pick up this beauty! It's all pretty original other than the obvious stuff like the wheels (15" BBS, available for sale!!), petrol cap and bee sting. It's also missing the chin spoiler. Its all pretty solid except for a flaky inner driver wing (at the usual spot) and would benefit from a new front and rear panel. All in good time!! First things first to sort the dodgy brake pipe that it needs to get through the MOT!! Any advice from VW purists gratefully received!!

Very nice , was looking at the pics thinking it needs lower profile tyres but see you are selling the wheels anyway, what wheels are you fitting ? Love that standard steering wheel

I'm going back to standard, want it be as original as I can so have sourced a full set of 5 13" Tarantulas for £50! The wheels will be for sale, as from my MX5 days, I believe they are quite desirable? I think the steering wheel is my favourite thing, I was well happy when I turned up and it had that on it!

Great stuff, the Tarantula's will look ace, fair play for keeping it standard.

Yeah, it should have 3 gauges I believe. It's all the details that need sorting like that, the silver heater controls and interior door locks. Oh and these 'beauties'... There is too much in the way of modded motors in my opinion, and I did all that on my MX5 (Lowered, stupid wheels, matt black paint etc), so have been searching for something near to original that I can get as close as possible to how it left the factory! This came up on classiccarsforsale.co.uk and I basically bought it sight unseen and drove down yesterday with a flatbed! I was first one to respond and fair play to the bloke he took the chance on me turning up like I said I would. He said he could have sold it 100 times over!!

Good purchase. I remember getting a shot of a 1.6GTi and getting it off the clock - it had a Silverstone Engineering 1.9 conversion. Have had a soft spot for Mk1's ever since.

Second hand set of tarantulas ordered and on their way. Removed the alloy fuel cap to reveal the expected rust, so a weekend of dremel grinding, rust treating and painting ahead! Love this car!!

Nice mk1. I could well be interested in those wheels, seeing as mine are knackered.

They are off a Corrado G60 apparently? Wheels are in pretty good nick, but tyres are FUBAR.

From memory the gauges should be volts, oil temp and oil pressure, they were VDO's so the same/similar as the Porsche ones, or older Audi's ( 80 cabrio's are a straight fit)
With nerd hat on that wheel is from an early (small rear light mk1) or the mk1 rocco. Though I'd keep it as its nicer than the standard or over priced 'campaign' leather steering wheels.
I've got a shed full of parts incl old trim, Orange indicators and window winders etc, from the many i have sent to the scrapers over the years so if you do need standard bits let me know and I'll probably have them, for beer tokens and postage.
Oh and on the fuel filler front, if the top is rusty, check the whole filler neck, as these rust worse than Alfasuds and its easier to just swap the whole lot out for a new pipe (saves crud in the fuel lines that can end up costing £££...)
Jp
ps. Just found my 82 GTI's handbook, the gauges are from left to right, to quote VW " Free for additional instrument, Oil temp Gauge, Free for additional instrument..."
