I need some help from the banded steel officianados. Is it possible to band Range Rover classic Rostyle wheels like these? Basically I want an set off wheels with road tyres, and a set for my mud terrain tyres. I like the deep dish look and wanted something a bit different. I was looking at some wheels from another make and having some adaptors made. Driving around on mud tyres is shaking out my fillings!!Is it possible?

Banding no probs but Extreme Offset Wheels will do a set of 10x16 wheels for a couple of hundred quid.

There are not many wheels that can't be banded. I've even done wire wheels!

you know that those rims don't have the bead lip, so you have to run inner tubes. just fitted them to my range rover.....

You could always have the whole centre transplanted into a wider rim. Actually Range Rover Rostyles aren't supposed to be very strong. That is the reason that, whilst fitted to early 90's, they weren't strong enough for the payload etc of the 110.

you do not have to run tubes on wheels without a safety bead, tubeless tyres work absolutely fine on them.

you do not have to run tubes on wheels without a safety bead, tubeless tyres work absolutely fine on them. that is indeed very true so long as the OP knows the options available. i didn't fancy rolling 2 tonne of range rover without tubes on rims originally expected to have tubes on them. I also didn't fancy taking the risk of invalidating my insurance should i have tyre a related accident. the other thing is these rims are rivetted, not welded. with age they are prone to leaking.

I just bought these Going to get them blasted and painted white. I've thought about running a few lines of weld like most other steel wheels between the centre and the rim as I don't fully trust the rivets either.

Not liking the sound of riveted rims. Especially as I plan on fitting mud terrain tyres to them. I just thought they would look cool and different banded. Maybe that's why I have never seen banded ones before.

As Simon said, just run a bead of weld around the flange of the wheel centre to the barrel and all will be well in the the land of kitteh carrying nuns.

Hi, nothing wrong with rivets, they have held steam engines, bridges and ships together!! Colin This is very true, in my example some of the heads of the rivets have been kissed by a grinder, and I just like the idea of running a few lines of weld round the inside of the rim belts and braces going by how close the weld is to the rivet line. For sealing I'll do as I've done before, once blasted the well around the bands and rivets will be buffed up with a light sanding disc to take off any sharp edges then some brushable seam sealer to finish. The tyre should slip through the well on fitting without any issues then

Maybe that's why I have never seen banded ones before. The availability of cheap 8 spokes and modular rims is why, and that most people still believe banded wheels are illegal and require serious balls to use on the road! I've seen Discovery steels banded and they looked good, and have plans to one day get a set of bog standard Defender steels banded for my Land Rover
