we have all heard the jokes about the Ford Mondeo and its love affair with gaffer or duct tape, but when was the last time you saw one without a "nice" patch of tape slapped on one of its bumpers, lets have photos of Mondeo's wearing their patches with pride. 2001 FORD MONDEO mkI facelift by shagracer, on Flickr

My mate Dan was once so excited that he'd bought a Mk1 with good condition bumpers that he jumped out of the car without putting the handbrake on and it rolled back and smashed the bumper on a gate post.

Ha ha! I have personally used several rolls of the stuff on a customers mk1 td to get it through the MOT each year. Mind you at 389,000 it's probably not worth putting new ones on.
Just wait, these will be going up in value like Sierra's in a few years to come. Quick! Stock-pile bumpers!!!

Inspired theme for a thread Am I the only person who diverted to google "gaffa tape mondeo" and noticed a dedicated website listed that is now DOA mondaeoswithgaffatape.webs.com ps. It's not just Mondys, I never leave home without cableties & gaffatape I did ask a mate why he used black gaffatape to repair a silver fairing - explained it looks so much better when you colour-coordinate

The funny thing is that when you see a silver mondeo, they've hardly ever used silver gaffa tape, its always blue or something ridiculous, at least pick the standard colour that doesn't stand out as much.

Clocked a red Mk1 Mondy last night and looked at the rear bumper and it was perfection. Took a peek at the front and it was gaffa tape heaven...!!!!!!!!
This morning I saw a Mk1 Mondy Ghia (where have they all come from?!) and both bumpers were perfect! I felt like chasing the chap to nab his virgin bumpers...!!!
Question is do Mondeo's have loads of gaffa tape stuck on them or does a roll of gaffa tape have a Mondeo attached to it...?!?!?!

Excellent! I always chuckle when I see them.
I'd heard it was something to do with the plastic being effected by UV

Excellent! I always chuckle when I see them. I'd heard it was something to do with the plastic being effected by UV Nope just the curse word hard plastic ford started using in the 90's, late sierras had them (same problem) Mk6/7 escorts had them and obv the mondeo, they were brittle when new

There was a one owner from new mk1 Mondy on a K plate at a local car auction I use a few months back. 42k on the clock and mint bumpers. Sold for £150.

My mate got a nice minty Mondeo St a while back, mint bumpers, no gaffer tape, he was so happy and after a couple of weeks someone reversed into it and cracked the rear bumper...I couldn't help but chuckle!

If memory serves correctly, while they used the same curse word plastics on all the range at the time, it was the mondy that had the issue due to the rear bumper being a massive parachute. If you find yourself following one on the motorway, have a look at the bumper and you'll see it flapping about all over the place. More often than not that constant flexing causes the bumper to crack and fail
