I bought this in October! I had a Starion a few years ago, but sold it. Have been seeking out another one. I was going to purchase an FD RX7, but chanced upon this on a forum mere minutes before I was going to head down to Nottingham.
Car had been in the seller's family since 1995. Driven by his father until it was put in a (thankfully) dry garage in 2005, and dragged out in 2014. Rust free with only a bit of 'garage use' on the body.
I gave it a quick clean. It was -filthy-. Interior was full of rubbish, evidence of drug use inside, brakes were seized, fuel pump was seized, fuel tank full of sludge and rust, brake pipes rusted through and leaking, etc.
I got it transported for £140 from Bolton to my garage (where I hoovered it and washed it):
Fuel from the tank (there were three buckets of this):
I stored these until I put them in my Micra K10. 9 year old fuel tainted with rust particles - it wasn't bothered!
Fuel tank then came out. I've had one before and these are only worth scrapping if they're left standing:
This is the damper on the end of the banjo on the end of the pump outlet. It's meant to have a semispherical metal piece over the top:
The rubber diaphragm held fuel pressure though!
Sorting the brakes out - all the old brake pipes needed replacing with new copper stuff:
I removed this by pulling on it:
Late night in the garage, so I gave it a polish while taking a brake from lying on my back:
Dat interior:
Back to it! Pads seized in carrier seized onto discs:
Disintegrated brake pad:
The exhaust system was blowing a bit:
In fact I reckon I could've played a decent tune on it if I had enough fingers to cover the holes on it:
I then sold my mk2 CRX!
I bought some KFC fried to celebrate. Look at the size of this one! Come on, which potato is this big?
I bought a new tank from a 30,000 mile car!
Lovely dust!
I nearly wept with joy when I saw these pipes - they are -always- knackered:
Spotless inside, this is easily the best purchase of the year:
Covered with that yellowy waxoyl stuff and put in the car. All nuts taken out, greased up and put back in.
I bought an original stereo!
I don't think it worked to be honest. I takes it's earth from the chassis, and it didn't come with a connector.
So I bought a Shogun mk1 one from a 4x4 breakers:
This half worked, but I wanted the original. It did come with a connector though. The wires were out, and I didn't want to burn out a possibly working stereo, so I left it until I got a decent one.
I THEN bought a working one (like the silver one) with a connector! Hurray!
Bought new alt belt and power steering belt:
Off up to Cybox in Bromborough for it's new exhaust system:
I left it here for a work while I was away at work.
And then back with a nice stainless steel exhaust system!
Put in for MOT (failed on a bulb, headlight aim and seat belt), and then passed on 1st November!
Next on list - repair cracked front air dam, remove crease from passenger side wing, and a proper service.
I planned on getting this roadworthy within a month and did it! Unfortunately, I have to put it away for the winter.
