I had a LHD Toyota FJ cruiser for a weekend. It has pretty terrible rear visibility and more than once I found myself in a position where I couldn't see to the right to pull out of a junction if I pulled up at an angle. Guess you get used to it and compensate pretty quickly. As I said the FJ's visibility would be terrible if it was RHD.
Other than that I don't recall any issues driving, and its a very wide car.

Drove a left hooker Camaro for 3 years with no real hassle soon get used to it, the very first right hand turn is a bit alien if you have never drove a LHD and like above - see a bus starting to stop leave a big gap so you can see if you can go round parking meters supermarkets etc - I wound down passenger window and shuffled across - no hassle Go for it - Took me about 20 minutes to get adjusted to the different gear shift hand etc...

The most annoying and dangerous part is the much bigger blind spot on your right. But get used to that and the other minor stuff and you'll not give a damn. In fact I've always quite liked having both LHD and RHD cars simultaneously, it evens out my back pain!

Integrale owners (who tend to overtake a lot) stick an angled mirror in the offside corner of the windscreen to help them see down the road a bit better. A couple of other alternatives: (Technical) Put a mini camera in the offside wing mirror and feed it to a fold out DVD screen (Basic) Put your other half in the passenger seat. Start to pull out - if they scream it's probably best to pull back in pronto

I've got a left hand drive motorhome so overtaking isn't something I often need to worry about. Big roundabouts can pose visibility to the right problems but it comes into it's own on European holidays.

The two cars I tend to drive most are this And this both lhd. It's a doddle, loads of people will try to put you off, usually the ones who have never driven one. Once you have done half an hour in it, you will wonder what the fuss is all about. If its a manual, you WILL once in a while, though, go to change gear & almost open the drivers door from the inside :0 First the DMC-12... then the Camaro!?! Anything else you wanna drop in there? I'll be smashing my cars up with hammers meanwhile

I'm on my second LHD car now. It did actually take me a couple of months to get comfortable with my first (a Fiat Barchetta). But once I did, like riding a bike I can now jump into LHD hire cars and even vans abroad and not think about it. As the Barchetta had a big blind spot with the roof up, I approached junctions at a slightly different angle.
I am thinking of mounting a camera or two now they are so cheap just to make overtaking a bit easier.

I daily drove my LHD Lancia Fulvia with no problems. I'd have no worries about buying another LHD car (one day I'll own an Intergrale….) Overtaking did take more thinking about, but tbh with the little 1.3 engine overtaking takes a bit of planning anyway. The Fulvia had great visibility and narrow pillars, so I really didn't find any problems with blind spots. I never had too much trouble remembering which side of the car to get in at the time, going back to rhd seemed more confusing for me! The only other niggle I found was that if I had passengers they did compromise the visibility when looking right at roundabouts and stuff, it was worse when they realised, and tired to move out of the way, normally closing the gap behind their head that I was watching the road though. haha. Still it's all pretty small niggles really.

I had a couple LHD Saab V4s when I lived in Scotland, they're very narrow cars so never had any issues with them. I live in Ireland now and currently have a LHD classic Saab 900 as a daily which I find a pain to drive here to be honest. The blind spot to the right is huge and overtaking nearly impossible. I'll convert it to RHD when I get the chance or I might sell it and buy an RHD car.

Well, next Saturday I'm collecting my FIL's l/h/d Audi A6 from the very west of Ireland and will be putting on the ferry so it can go back home as the FIL doesn't want to drive it anymore. It was involved in an accident a couple of months ago, somebody elses fault but the FIL reckons he might have avoided being hit if he'd been driving a r/h/d car - B roads are no doubt an issue with l/h/d. He has now purchased a r/h/d car rather than using the Audi in Ireland.

My lupo 3L is a left hooker, no issues in day to day use, except frequently getting in the wrong side lol
Very handy for toll roads in euroland though

Having driven LHD cars for the past 34 years there are no major draw backs over the car park/toll/drive through. In fact being able to get out of the car onto the pavement is a major plus point! As for overtaking, always had something with a lot of power so not a problem either, just change the way you drive slightly, hang back a bit further to get the angles and then use the power to drive by. My integrale was awesome but of you are going to go proper lhd mental (over and above the American stuff that I love) I would have another RS2 in a flash. As a tool for covering large distances in a short time scale this is the one I miss the most.... Spill the bean on your new ride then Sir! P.

I actually saw an Intergale (Evo II) passing through here the other day and it's probably the coolest thing that's ever been around here.. I didn't buy it in the end unfortunately (too much other 'junk'), but it was a pretty complete Opel GT project going cheap that I was too tempted by. I have a soft spot for that sort of thing (by that I mean 60s/70s 2 door coupes, such as the GT and 240-80z etc.) Thanks for all the good info in this thread, will come to use when I inevitably sell everything I own to buy a big thirsty lhd yank tank one day.

I saw a couple of unusual left hookers on my way to work this morning. One was a newish Volvo estate and the other a Mk2 Fiesta, both on UK plates. Just made me wonder how that came about.

Insurance can be a pain in the sometimes too. But certain specialist brokers should sort you out. Otherwise, it's just minor problems like overtaking and toll booths as stated above. I was quoted £111 to insure my LHD Porsche 924 by a comparison site, so not always difficult to insure. It might be more interesting if the vehicle was never sold here.
