selling a car with tax bought before 1st October

Hi I have been on dvla etc but have not had any luck finding the info I am looking for, a friend has her dearly departed fathers car that she wants to sell, the tax was bought in September from the local post office, can she sell the car with the tax ?
Or does she need to refund it and the new owner tax the car themselves?
Any clarification on this would be very useful?

Tax will be refunded to whoever is named on the V5
New owner has to tax the car before using it
The DVLA will only become aware of the change of ownership once the V5 arrives at their office

Cars can now not be sold with the remainder of tax no matter when the tax was purchased

I thought the same until a few days ago. I sold my car in July. It remained in trade for a few months with a number of months remaining on the tax.

The trader sold it early November and suddenly I recieved a tax refund in the post which was a nice suprise!

I have a feeling the new owner will not be aware of this and will possibly believe he has car tax as the disc has a number of months remaining and is still with the car however DVLA' s website says the car is not taxed. I'm assuming DVLA automatically refund the previous keeper hence why I had an early Xmas present and the trader has nothing?

If this is normal, even if you leave the tax in the window or remove it you should automatically get a refund without the need to fill in forms etc for a refund.

I was under this impression that if the car had a tax disk it still changed with the vehicle and only vehicles taxed from October under the new system auto refunded.

Nope tax is now none transferable in any way shape or form

We registered a load of pre reg cars at work in September so as to hit sales target ( common practice ) but each one of them we have had to re tax, even the ones we sold the same day or day after registration
