been looking for a project and a chrysler avenger has come up with a 1600 in it, that is truely solid how much power will the rear axle take? if not alot what else fits? would a duratec with megajolt and drysump be a good engine to use? then mated to a type9 box? what brake upgrades are available?
all answers can involve, aluminium welding, stainless or mild steel welding. i can do it all to a competant standard. many thanks dan

Avenger axles are damn-near bomb-proof. I've heard of Ford V6s running through them, plus the Sunbeam Lotus used them (not sure if the works ones did). I reckon it should be up to the job for what you're planning, although the axle tubes have been known to separate from the centre section under extreme conditions. Welding in some webs to tie them together may be a good precaution to take.

Might be a good idea to join ASOC, they've got loads of parts for sale, and some very clever members

I've been putting 200+ bhp through my hunter rear axle. Its got an MX5 engine in it along with a custom pro. I have 2 axles, one that wined since i got it so i welded the diff and currently have in the car. The other is a 4.1 ratio and an open diff. I used this for drag racing, after 18 runs it was fine! My dad put a highly modified 3.0 Essex with triple carbs in his avenger on a standard axle, never had any problems at all
