About the driveshafts; don't know if it's been send off already, but shouldn't the lexus transmission side have a slip yoke kinda construction? That's at least how it's normally done Also that slip yoke is also there to disconnect the transmission and rear diff laterally, so that if the rear diff moves it won't create any forces on the transmission. So it's dependent on what kind of construction the car's maker had intended for the driveline whether it's actually needed or not

The LS400 has a big rubber plate that bolts directly to the transmission tail. No slip there, like in most cars & trucks. The diff on the Maserati, can't move because it's bolted to a cradle. It's independent rear suspension with a fixed diff. The LS400 slips in almost the same way that the Maserati one does. It won't go out for rebuilding for several weeks.

Paul, the front section on the LS400 is a slip yolk. basically a splined rod inside the shaft. Oooer missus.

Right, I know. On say a US car for example, the slip yoke is right at the tail of the transmission, where this LS has it's slip all the way down near the carrier bearing. I can't use that part. I only need the first several inches of the LS shaft, to connect the LS transmission coupler to my Masser shaft.
The whole front section of the LS400 isn't slip, it's only that last bit, and in order to use that, I'd have to cut an LS shaft 3 times to get it to work.

Sometimes your friends need help with their brakes. No problem, it's much warmer today. We pushed the Maserati outside so I can help my buddy and until I saw it next to a V6 Honda Civic- I had no idea how small this car is. Holy curse word it's going to be fast. The dash panel: (it's not mounted, it'll be raised higher up, it'll be good) I still have to pick up and pay for the roll cage tubes. That's not for a while though. The steering column is detached and dropped down. Since I abandoned the back seat because of the roll cage tubes, making an "X" across the back window, My son thought they were comfortable, so I took a page from Chris and did this: He loves it.

Today, Christmas day- after the gifts were opened- I was able to sneak outside to the garage. I was able to get both seats mounted and bolted into the car, and yes- the sliders work, you can move the seats. I also redesigned the Maserati automatic gear selector, so that with a simple bell crank, it will connect to the LS trans.
I feel I have a lot done for a day that I wasn't supposed to go out there. Now comes the parents, in-laws, etc. It's going to be a few days before that dash gets installed. Gotta run! Rock on and be safe out there!

16x7 Konig Rims. Four lug, 4x100mm with center covers. My hubs are 4x98mm, but since I have to have adapters/spacers made, it should be no problem for them to put the correct wheel studs in the proper locations. I'll get some decent rubber somewhere and these wheels will transform the car. I wanted a classic look, yet more modern than the 80's. I had been watching the price on these used wheels, continue to drop and since I was already in Michigan for the holiday- We did a "road trip within a road trip" and ran north an extra hour to pick these up cheap. Also, the dash stand alone gauges will be slowly arriving this week. Now that's going to be a cool update. Still have to work out the Tablet speedo deal. Wheels: Once these are refinished, they'll look nice.

Those wheels will suit the body style well I think. Will bring a modern stance without taking away the retro coolness

Update Dashboard 2015 Now, there's a lot of little details yet to be completed on the interior, but once everything is done, sound proof against rattles and fully assembled, this is going to be 'Effing awesome. Picture yourself in this V8 Maserati now- Get in, latch the 5 point safety harness securely, flip the main power switch, turn the fuel pump on and press the "engine start" button and the magic happens... The view through the rear window, just wait until the cage is installed... The GPS Speedometer will be mounted flush, but for now I just used gaffer tape and stuck my phone there, for effect. You get the idea. (they were out of the Kawasaki green phone cases, so I ended up with gay purple)

The cheap, and I mean CHEAP hole saw kit that I used, walked all over the place and it looks like I was drunk when I drilled the holes, but- no. It's ok, it'll all be painted later. It has a digital Tachometer, oil pressure, volt meter, temperature and a fuel gauge. I can almost hear it now...

I hear the 1UZ engines love to snack on tarmac. Fantastic! I needed something from the junkyard today: Ok- I walked in the junkyard to get a Lexus relay box. What do my eyes see? A freaking 1984 Biturbo. Probably only the second one I have ever seen in person. All of a sudden my plans for the rest of the day became unclear, but I knew this: Those doors don't have any rust on them, and mine are in horrible condition. I'm not leaving here without them. The bonnet has an amazing wire mesh grille, that I bought. I took the entire hood home and grabbed my little generator and a power saw and hauled ass back there. I couldn't get the screws off the door hinges. So I brutally cut the doors off the car. I may go back for other stuff, but they say the car has a queue of people that have been emailed about it being here. They also say that it's the first Maserati in their company history. It had only been sat in this yard, for an hour before I stumbled upon it. I tried to get the rear suspension off of it, but when my wife heard where I was and what I was doing, let's just say that it's best I left the rest of that car, right where it is. I've learned that it is 1 of 500 "E" models imported into the states. I took the steering wheel and the bonnet lift cylinders. I can't believe it. This build is supposed to happen. The moon and stars have aligned. I don't have to re-skin my doors and get the window motors to work. All weekend in the garage. YES!!!

Great thread! Why don't you try to get the windscreen etc from that car too if they are that uncommon in the US?

I would love to buy every part and keep it or sell it, but I have to stick to the plan. I would speculate that if I were to return to the junkyard car- it'll be almost picked clean. There are many ebay vultures that circle that carcass. Pic update on mine later.
