So this is my new purchase to replace the blown up B3 Passat estate. Picked it up from Northampton last Saturday and had a decent if not bouncy (chopped springs) run home. To say it's a 2.2 auto it's not doing too bad on fuel. Especially as the exhaust needs welding and I think tappets need doing. Plans include a coilover conversion or bags depending on budget and a set of Fuch rep wheels in either 16 or 17"

Looks good!
Surely a 2.2 at that age? I don't think the 2.3 appeared until they had to put catalytic converters on them in the very early 90's.

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

I'm still not sure what direction to take this. With the passat I knew from day one what way I was going with it. This one has totally stumped me, dunno if it's cos it's a pretty rare car or what?
The interior is in great condition but the paint isn't so great, I think someone has attempted to buff it and gone too far as it's bubbled in places.

I was watching this for a long time but was put off by the poor advert. I love Audi 5 cylinder engines (can you tell?) the 2.3 10valve is a fantastic engine if it has been maintained. Smooth, responsive, nice and torquey and the noise they make with a good exhaust is immense! Had it been a manual car I would've been tempted myself. The grey velour interiors (I'm assuming that's what you have) are usually very hard waring.

Thats a great looking car you have there. There's a 200 on Auto trader at the moment which interesting - not seen a 100 or 200 around these parts for a long while.

That does look good I suspect though that any suspension for it is going to have to be custom made going by the fun I had with my B4 80 and Dez had with his old B2 80

I saw this on ebay and love the slammed look on this, I would say if you're not in the position to get a respray there's always the option for a rattle can respray of a matte colour to give it a rat look possibly? Rattle can spray jobs can come off really nice if you do it right, like matte red with some chrome colour wheels would look mad for this. I don't know it is just an idea i'm getting sidetracked but i think a rough rat-ish look for this with some modern looking chrome would make this car look awesome!

I'm not adverse to a satin paint job but the rarity of the car is putting me off going down that route. But as usual I'm toying with the lace painted roof idea and clean the body up. But there will be not matt/satin black on this bodywork!!! There will be pinstriping added over Christmas and once I have my club sticker in it will feel more my own

Maybe see if some up rated shocks do the trick for now

Interior is blue velour and in great condition, apart from x little sun fading on the rear bench but a mexican blanket will cure that

I have a great liking for these Audi 5 pots. I've had a couple of 90s, the first a 2.0 but the second with the 2.2 "KV". Though "only" 136 bhp, they were strong horses and it played a marvellous tune. It was also pretty good on fuel and was still going strong at 180k when I sold the car. I now have the 2.5TDI version of it - not so tuneful but plenty of grunt, very and economical, and at 272k, I thing it's fair to say durable!
