right, where to start.
i usually use POR-15 products, and have had good results with them. on the hot rods i do, the general approach is sandblast everything then go straight on with POR-15 rust preventative paint, as the semi-gloss black finish is 'period correct'. its a tough finish and seems to last well.
what i am wanting to do is paint the inside of the floor pans and various underbody areas on my merc gloss white, as each area is repaired, as the car will eventually be getting resprayed to its original white colour. i want a tough white paint, that i can more or less paint straight onto keyed bare metal- maybe etch prime at most.
but POR-15 don't offer this. to get a gloss white finish in their products which i can paint onto bare metal(non-sandblasted, but keyed up) would involve purchasing 5 products- marine clean/metal prep, a primer, the rust preventative paint (which doesnt come in white, only black, silver, grey or clear), another intermediate primer to key to the rust preventative paint, then 2k urethane white. all well and good, but that means nigh on £200 worth of products, and a lengthy 5 step process.
so, does anyone know of a product that i can paint staright onto keyed/degreased bare metal, or maybe just over an etch primer, that will give the finish and protection i require? i tried looking on the bilt-hamber site as i have heard good things about their products, but its a bit rubbish as they seem to expect you to know what obscure name each product has already, and what I'm looking for seems to be buried with 4000 different types of polish and wax, so its difficult to find what I'm looking for.
ive also heard rustbullet is ok? anyway, tell me what you use, and if itll do what i need!!
