That kind of reminds me of the redneck Bugs on GTA. I mean that in a good way. I can imagine Plod having a field day with that.
The blue Bug looks very neat but unless it has air suspension the sheer number of killer speed bumps round my neck of the woods would mangle it within 30 seconds.
Ok, so there are some interesting possibilities.
Thanks for the piccies. Are these here 'modern Bugs' welcomed at the traditional VW meets or are they pointed at and told to go and park in a distant corner of a field?

This appears in our car park at work (I robbed the pictures from the Wheel companies Facebook page) I think it's simple but effective. It's currently not sporting white walls but still looks ok.

I wouls just brace myself for problems, had a 2.0 8v newbie which broke all the time and the interior fell apart. Build quality horrendous. Stick to golfs now.

To be fair the 1.6 is a much better engine, better on fuel, don't brake down as often and only 10bhp less than the 2.0.
Things that will break are, coolant temp sensor, brake servo vacum hose, arb bushes, arm rest latch and door lock sensor switch. May get various electrical gremlins but usualy caused by the things listed.

Sell it for the frankly ridiculous sums they fetch (1.6s sell better to 19 year old girls with no taste due to insurance) and buy something else. they're horrific cars, awful to drive, pointlessly cramped, unreliable and awful to work on.

Oh hi, you're new. Please read this home.retro-rides.org/?page_id=17014Really has to be Baja Bug style innit? My google-fu is weak and I couldn't find one, but I bet that's cos no-one's done it yet EDIT: Scratch that. Do this That's amazing! I did this photoshop a few years ago: I know it's not fantastic (perspective is a bit shonky), but it's made my day to know that someone has done it!

I can think of a lot worse cars. Actually I have had a lot of them already. I do like the look and this particular car has survived the attentions of a girly driver without terminal issues whatsoever. She's got a good, trustworthy mechanic and she adores the car. It's a bit tatty but I can resolve that without a major ball ache.
Some quite tasteful stuff out there. The VW mags do still seem to cater for the air cooled stuff though. I'm looking forward to it tbh.
An MGF is awful to work on for some bits. Done that. So is a 6 litre XJS, even I'm not that daft lol

That's amazing! I did this photoshop a few years ago: I know it's not fantastic (perspective is a bit shonky), but it's made my day to know that someone has done it! Emdee predicts the future yet again, lol. ^^ This needs to be made in real life, it looks more like it exists than the one I posted. Which actually does exist I have to say, I've never been a hooooge fan of the Nu Beetle since it's essentially a Golf in a sumo suit and I don't generally fall over for such lazy and cynical heritage marketing. With that said, the New Nu Beetle looks a lot better than the Old Nu Beetle IMHO and shows a bit more potential. You'd like to think they'd sorted out the unreliability by now, too. Plus, the VAG scene tends to be such a closed shop I'd love to see it shaken up by something truly preposterous

I do like the photoshop rendering, looks bloody cool.
If I had the cash, I'd have an aircooled Bug I suppose but I don't and the car that is coming to me is in need of some TLC. I can do that.
I actually prefer the look of the not-so-new Bugs, the brand new one looks too much like a TT. That isn't a criticism, it's just how it looks.

Congratulations, you made me pay attention to the New Beetle again with some of these postings. I have nothing useful to add because I know nothing about them.

Hi VA, good to see you over here.
I know that I quite like them. I'd like a beige one but am happy (or I will be) with a black one.

I'm getting my hands on a work colleagues modern Beetle soon (1.6 boggo standard jobbie). Any ideas as to what sensible mods/upgrades are recommended? Cheers cover in petrol set alight to it and with the insurance pay out buy Rita a nice gift and get yourself a Triumph 1300. you know it makes sense. Happy Christmas Dad. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Marty.

Hmm, not good thoughts there Mr. Marty Bear. You'd have thought a synthetic fabric bear would not be so focused on such flammable items! I am saddened that your surrogate dad has allowed such thinking.
I'm thinking that you might have such a 1300 for sale? No! MUST..... NOT..... GO.....THERE.....AGAIN! I have the TRoledo and the 1500FWD, I can't have another Triumph mate.

For something totally different, how about getting some spats or fender skirts made up for it? It's the right sort of body style for it to work. Couple it with some large diameter smooth face alloys or polished wheel trims, a very light smoke to the glass and a detrim all over and you could have a very smart, very smooth Beetle unlike anything else out there. There's only so much inspiration you can take from old Beetles, much of what you'd apply can easily come across as pastiche which is a bit of a shame. It's a modernised old design so it should embrace more the streamlined ideas of the late 30s in which the car was originally conceived and run with that rather than looking towards rat look or 50s rockabilly chic, especially since you've got a black car to work from as a base.
