I, in my wisdom or otherwise decided about a year ago to purchase a car similar to the first car i owned which was a 1979 Chrylser Alpine. The reasons for this purchase were threefold. Firstly my kids were looking through my albums of old photos of some of my old cars and upon stumbling across my old Chrysler asked what it was like, and they said they liked it, and could we get another one day, (They were 8, and 4 years old at the time). Secondly, nostalgia, the kids talking about it got me thinking about it, not that the old car really ever leaves my mind, i can still hear that old engine rattling away like a bag of rusty spanners as i drive along in my mind. Lastly, or thirdly if you like, a 1985 Talbot Alpine was advertised on fleabay, so i bid on it! Anyway, a few of my friends give me no end of grief about it, and the constantly extract the wee-wee about the old thing. But, interestingly it would seem that a lot of people actually think its pretty cool. So i was just wondering what does everyone think of the old thing, is it cool, or not... Opinions please.

So where's the rest of its story & ReadersRides thread!? It's clear it has had a bit more than factory effort go in to it.

The bike and wheels are the Marmite bit for me - i love the car itself (i remember when they were a regular sight) and i'd roll it on some deep steels myself.
Broadening my ideas for a bigger motor, it's criminal the models i've forgotten about over the years..

I like it. As already said though, different wheels and you got a winner. No build thread yet?? Get some more photos up mate

More photos!
I like the wheels, look really good.
I'd never buy a car because it was considered cool by others. Buying what you want because you like it then enjoying driving it and not giving a rats ass about what other people think is way cooler than buying into the latest fad or trend.
That is the sort of car I wouldn't recognise on the road at first glance and I'd def do a double take if it drove past me!

Have you tried too hard to make it look cool? Yes. As has been said ditch the bike (unless it is genuinely required and not a fashion accessory) and get some better wheels on it.
Is the car itself cool? Absolutely!
On the wheels note, what are the specs of these? PCD, centre bore, offset etc...

Yep I like this car and really wanted it myself when it calme up for sale last year and didn't sell for a long time.
What I don't like is a thread where someone needs to ego boost themselves, start a thread and go that way.

Marmite car on here is a strange phrase though because more people would like marmite here than in general (even just in the car world) society.

I really don't believe that anything is either love it or hate it, as Marmite's marketing dept would love you to believe. As an example, I quite like your car. I remember them being fairly common. They never looked particularly good to be honest. Bland. With the passing of time, and their rarity, I quite like seeing them again now. So, yes, quite like. Up to you on your mods too, seems a few on this thread have forgotten our modus operandi....

I like that. Just the sort of random forgotten motor that we love on here, that was once an everyday sight being given a dose of attention. More please!

Oh yes, that'll do for me...!!!
Personally I'm not a fan of the 'bike on the roof' thing but it's not my motor so it's really not up to me...
This is indeed a cool car and it's also damn rare too so you've got something very special there!
I love Marmite by the way...!!!

ooh i like this: wheels suit the car better than the alloys you've got on it now.. as a side notice... factories didn't even bother designing rear lights back then, fascinating how this has changed. this was just a that'll do from the disigner as he grabbed some VW santana lights out of the parts department and I bet there's a lot more cars with exactly the same rear light layout

That's a ridiculous question to ask on here! (as the voting is proving).
I liked it when I saw it a RRG, I was tempted when it was for sale on here and I like it now.

Deffo uber cool but as already stated - Miles better on steelies - If you still have them , use them. If you don't Banded steels would work for me too.
Oh, and lose the bike lol
