How to apply seam sealer wihout makin a mess of it

Any tips on applying seam sealer also whats the best products to buy

is there any attachments available for the sealer gun??

I've only ever use brush on sealant and never had a problem with it being messy if a fresh tin. Once air gets in then it seemed to go "stringy" and then would probably be difficult to apply.
I believe you can use masking tape either side of the seam to produce a neat edge but not tired it myself

I've seen masking tape used to create nice sharp edges but personally I just wear a couple pairs of gloves and use my finger to press it into and across the seam. I use the pu type in cartridges - tiger seal , sikaflex etc which applies well and costs about £5ish a tube.

If you're using the brush on type take a pair of scissors to your brush and take half off the length of the bristles.

Panelwipe on a paper towel, wipe over it. It'll take the mess off and slim it down too, makes for a really neat job.

sikaflex is good stuff we use it on tippers at work, as said cut the brush down, pannel wipe the surface first, and if your not happy with how it looks, loads of pannel wipe on a rag, wipe it until it looks good.

Do people really use sikaflex as seam sealer?

That fact that theres a million and one sikaflex's probably clouds the picture. Sikaflex is a brand name not a product.

I use normal seam sealer in a calking gun with my finger to smooth it into the joins. I never want excess or brush marks i want it smooth when i do it.

I used a cut down brush with a big tin, for a trial I used masking tape and also the glove method to smoothen it, either are great but the glove way is quicker and is useful for tight areas where masking is difficult.

I don't know the full ins and outs but I think it went well, I'd recommend having a bit of heat in the car/ garage, not a heat gun directly on the area but it would help

apart from door skin edges theres not much neat sealer on a car , i recon masked edges look more fake and shouts ive been messed with more than some brushed on stuff
