As it's a little quite I've just done a full restoration on an antique French 'Godin' solid fuel stove. We had bought it a couple of years ago, but never gotten around to doing anything with it. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find and 'before' pictures As is usually the case with these things the sheet steel barrel had rotted out, but, the firebricks and grate were in excellent condition. As was the stove enamelling (underneath all the grime) A new barrel was rolled from brushed 16swg stainless steel, to give a more contemporary twist to it and everything else cleaned, repaired or restored as necessary. Final assembly resulted in this; All in all about 4 days solid work start to finish, but I think you'll agree the result is somewhat striking

Wow, very tidy! I've only just encountered these, my mate's moved into a place with a huge one, the whole thing's enamelled, and it stands about 3-1/2' to 4' high! I'll get her to send a pic. Beautiful things, and with a load of coal in it keeps the whole house toasty over night.

They are a cracking bit of kit. This one is for sale now, but the price tag is not for the feint hearted! The beauty of the stainless steel barrel on this one, is the lovely blueing effect that will occur. We did this one a couple of years ago for my Mum and Dad's narrowboat with a polished stainless steel barrel, and the blue through to gold colouring (like you see on motorbike exhausts) really does look good;

True craftsmanship - love the end result, the stoves look so different in stainless We fitted a Godin same as the one in your first pic for my ex a few years ago to replace her open fire, hers has the original finish (brown enamel with red decorations) in very good condition They are a great mix of style / art / cheap practical heat

I worked in a place where they had one which was converted to gas, it was the only nice thing about the house the previous owner didn't take with them when they moved out! It really seemed to throw the heat out.

Except yours is gorgeous! Great resto. I wrapped the barrel in galv sheet steel to repair it. It's in my garage and gives great heat. I wish I'd seen yours first, it might have inspired me to do mine to a much higher standard.
