Following on from Whysub's thread about fuel issues - has reminded me about ethanol in petrol, particularly the problem of corrosion in older fuel systems which were not designed to run with it.
First question - Does anyone know the current levels of ethanol in the petrol general sold around the UK. I thought we hadn't gone down the route Europe had of increasing it - but maybe we have?
Second question - What additives are people using to combat ethanol corrosion in classics?
I've heard various claims for products, then read qualified chemists saying such claims are rubbish. Which has left me confused.
I am currently using Catrol ValveMaster Plus - lead replacement & octane boost, which says it offers "excellent corrosion protection."
No problems as yet - but is there anyone on here who knows enough chemistry to suggest anything better?
