While on holiday I ended up in a model car shop. I was wandering around when I spotted a Vitesse 2CV that I bought - this one: It is called a “2CV Belgium”, which I thought was a bit odd until I spotted the rear lights – they are mounted on the wings. I’d never seen this before, so when I got back home I did some searching. Turns out those crazy Belgians had slightly different versions to the French. For example, rear lights like these: What I found more interesting was this: 1958 French 2CV: 1958 Belgian 2CV The Belgians got the 3rd side window in 1958 but the French built cars didn’t get it until 1966. Until now I didn't know the Belgians did their own thing with 2CVs, and I only found out because of a model I bought in a shop in the Ginger Factory in Queensland. Funny how things work isn't it?

Nice find, didn´t know about these differences either and I don´t live too far away fvrom both Belgium and France, other than you. I bet not many people from downunder know the 2cv at all?! Talking about missing 3rd windows: the renault 4 had that feature, too (for a short while). It was then called renault 3, as it was an even lower spec version of the 4. I've only been in Aus for 7 years. When I was younger my mum ran this as a daily: It was brand new when we got it. I remember being disappointed Dad hadn't gone for the yellow one with fake bullet holes! My Dad's second car was a Renault 4 - I had no idea Renault did a 3! 2CVs aren't uncommon down here, this one lives in the town I live in. It is a UK import - they guy that owns it is an ex-pilot and he spent some time in the UK where he bought it, and then imported it when he moved back.

The very first photo is taken in Holland. The number plate tells me that it was first registered in 1955. The photo it self was taken around 1963 or later. The 3rd window. I am not so sure about either. The France 2CV is much older than the Belgium 2CV in these pictures There was a special edition at some time in the late 70's or early 80's with a "deleted" 3rd window. But regardless I like your find!!
Cheers

According to www.cats-citroen.net/home.html the first Belgian built car to have it was the AZL3 introduced in 1958. It also had cut outs on the rear wings added in 1959, and taken off again in 1961. The picture I linked to above doesn't have the cut outs so may well be a later car (or a French one built after 1966 - I have no idea!). This is an AZL3 built between 1959 and 1961 I find it interesting that the same car built in two countries that aren't that far apart had such major differences.

The 1958 French 2CV as in your picture is my favourite. It's a beautiful car. I had a few 2cv's over the years. Most were 80's models. I always preferred the Special with the round head lights and bench seat.
Cheers
