The time has come to move my Metro on to its next owner.
My personal circumstances have changed so I'm going to be doing a fair few more miles, I've got a one-off chance to buy a car I've been lusting after for years, and I need to accept that whilst at 6'3", I fit in the Metro... It gets a bit achey after 50 or so miles.
Quick info:
1981 Austin MiniMetro in Zircon Blue (phwoar) with beige velour interior (oh baby).
Automatic but not a problem for me - still an eager wee car, kickdown works perfectly, shifts are fine, still a hoot to drive. Hell, it's got an A-series. You could fit a manual in a weekend. Probably.
MOT until 23/09/2015, no advisories.
Cheap tax
Classic insurance
Zeibarted from new, and well undersealed.
Electronic ignition.
Four good Falkens on it with plenty tread depth, one unused Dunlop on the spare.
Just rolled over to 26k last night but is in daily use so this will go up. This mileage is genuine and is supported by both service history and previous MOTs.
Located in Berwick upon Tweed (north Northumberland, way past The Wall, amongst the Wildlings)
But...
Pre-empting someone saying that they'd love it if it were closer, if you pay the asking price (which is fair given the condition and mileage, and the prices of similar cars) or VERY close then I WILL DELIVER THIS CAR TO ANY TRAIN STATION IN ENGLAND, SCOTLAND OR WALES.
...OR EVEN A FERRY TERMINAL IF YOU FANCY COMING FROM ELSEWHERE TO GET IT. I need to get home afterwards, and I'm not driving to Dover or Dundee on a promise, so you'll need to have paid a deposit before I set off
If you read the Reader's Rides thread then you'll see the work I've put in over the last month or so. To provide closure to that thread, I can let you know that not only did it get to Bristol and back - a journey of 810 miles - but it also fixed its own heater. Just to make sure, I flushed and backflushed the cooling system and have since refilled it with decent coolant. Furthermore, the exhaust is all sorted, it starts first time, idles smoothly, gets up to temperature easily and the temp gauge stays SOLID.
To reiterate, this is a usable daily classic that keeps up with modern traffic (likes to sit at a gps-verified 65-ish on the motorway), is easy to maintain, and with a wee bit of work will be an astounding car.
You could keep it as is and maintain it.
You could easily make it concours.
You could get it scraping tarmac on some awesome wheels (incidently, I have a set of four phase 1 MG Metro pepperpots available by negotiation which would look immense turned into 13" splits)
You could strip it out and turn it into a proper B-road weapon. Well, as much of a weapon as an A-series Metro can be...
You could use it for historic rallying/road rallying/navigation events.
Some older photos and a write up about the car are available here but I took some photos earlier today which are below. All I did to prep the car for the photos I took was to spritz it down with the degreaser I use on my bicycle then run a hose over it. You'll see from the underbonnet photos (I couldn't be bothered to clean it - it was cold ) that the general level of grime on the car is quite low.
As you'll see, the last six thousand miles have taken a bit of a toll on the car. Not least of all, is the small amount of panel damage to the valance and offside wing at the front, and a small dent on the rear valance. This happened on boxing day just gone; the car spun on black ice at less than 10mph and hit a grass verge. I cleaned the damage, let it dry, primered it and gave it a quick blast of satin black to protect it. Unfortunately, I have not had the spare time or money to amend this damage. Fortunately, it will be an easy repair - panels are available, or could be easily made.
Please bear in mind that the only bad parts of the car are on removable panels - the quality of the shell is evident on the photos of the door shuts, boot and inner wings. Quite a few forum members have seen this car and I'm sure they'd testify as to its quality. If you would like photos of anything in particular then please let me know and I will take them.
Also, the brake pad wear level warning light came on during the weekend in Bristol. I have ordered new pads and discs (they were supposed to arrive today...) and will fit them as soon as they arrive. I am also awaiting a new throttle cable as there is slight wear to the original one.
I think that's everything covered... Enjoy the photos. If you want to discuss the car, then send me a PM with a number I can call you on. Any questions, reply below
Cheers!
