Hi there, I'm running a mk2 cortina as my daily with a 2ltr 16v i4 lump in it. I'm really impressed with this engine, it goes really well..... But I'm struggling to find any info on this particular engine. Any of you lot running one? Or know a bit about em? I've not seen another old for running one which I find odd. Any info gratefully received! Thanks Clive

No , well yes but not running . I believe they are not that popular due to being fairly rare and then the zetec came along as well , plus the lack of tuning options readily avaliable . Good engine from what i gather , certainly nothing wrong with it , just not popular or fashionable i supppose .

There's a guy on turbosport who builds a lot of them. Unfortunately can't remember his username!!! Remember there is also a 2.3 bottom end in Galaxy's and Scorpio's, which can be used with the RS2000 head and cams to give more power and torque.
I believe @sheffieldcortinacentre has put a few in a few different Cortina's and even turbo'd one.

If it's the sierra engine they are Twincam 8v not 16v, my daily sierra is the dohc i4 and they are good engines as long as they are looked after, they deliver decent mpg figures and are torquey old lumps, they are prone to hgf and low oil pressure, it's usually the pressure relief screw has unwound out of the pump so pump can be removed and the screw threadlocked and tightened back up, the oil pumps are expensive as they are only available from ford mine was £330, the headgasket problem cam be overcome by using a scorpio 16v ford mls headgasket, they also cook the starter solenoid on rhd models due to them being sat right under the exhaust downpipe.

My mate had a Mk3 Cortina with a 2.3 Scorpio bottom end/RS2000 head combo. Think it had reground cams, a bit of head work, 45s and was generally just nicely built. Was a really quick car, quicker than his BOA Cossie V6 Mk5 and handled pretty well with basic mods.

An i4 is in contention for my Cortina as they're cheaper to get in than a Zetec.

As said they are a good engine, i love em BUT you get stuck when trying to tune them for more power, on buysellcortina, sheffieldcortinacenter has a daily Mk3 with the 8V twincam in it has done for years, i've put a couple of carb versions in cortinas and the like in the past, they are nice to drive. I take it we are actually talking about the same engine? the sierra/granada 8V 2.0 and not the zetec 16V 2.0 ??

My dad had one these in his Morgan for a few years, started with a RS2000 lump on 45s and weber alpha ignition. Running RWD through a cossie T5. Unfortunately he hit a rather large puddle and it put a con rod through the block after ingesting large amounts of water. He then swapped it out for a galaxy block and put some cams in (can't remember which I'm afraid) after this it was pushing close to 190bhp on the rollers. Might not sound that impressive but it drove great with loads of midrange grunt. I definitely have a soft spot for that motor great alternative to the ubiquitous vauxhall redtop.

I run an RS 2000 16v engine in my mk1 Escort. I use the standard injection with the inlet manifold cut and shut to put the throttle body at the front of the engine. The exhaust manifold is a cut and shut X flow item, 1.8 Sierra cvh flywheel and pinto clutch plate. There is on only about 4 or 5 wires to connect up to get it running. They are a good strong engine in 2.0. Even better in 2.3. 2.0 is 150 bhp for £100. Can't be bad. These engines are becoming quite popular in classics. I have a mate with one in an Anglia, another with a 2.3 in a mk2 escort, another with a 2.3 in a rwd mk3 escort and another 2.0 in a chevette.

Awesome lumps and really underrated, standard got good grunt, like already said tuning is harder than zetecs and the like as there is'nt as many off the shelf bits, My Mate Carl has a 2.3 hybrid in his Orion (2.0 head, 2.3 block) Is an animal but cruises so well And we're almost done with mine in my Mk3 Tina, I'm gonna run a 38 webber instead of injection

I kinda fancy losing the standard efi setup that mines running and swapping to carbs. How do you know what electrics to lose and which ones to keep? I've got 2 ecu's!
