Hi guys, probably time to do a thread about this..... 1984 Vauxhall Carlton 1.8 (G?)L Bum basic. No engine. Fairly rust free. The sill needs a little love, and the battery tray is a bit crusty but otherwise its ok. The strut tops have had an ugly repair in the past, but it looks solid so it'll do. Some more pics...... The future. Now, these isuzu 1.7s have a central sump on the cavaliers, half made of cast ally, and half pressed steel.... no good for the cross member, no good for remaking. Luckily they were made of fully pressed steel on the combo vans, and have a good rep for rotting out..... which means plenty in the aftermarket super cheap. SO I bought a new one to hack up. Trial fitting the engine in place, it sits pleasingly far back. Unfortunately, that makes making a sump a bit tricky! Measure Choppy chop (and remake pickup) Find some steel. Yugo roof should do. Start welding up Well.... it might work! Hmmmmm found this laying around, says Iveco. Probably do. LIKE A GLOVE! Battery tray wont be any use....lets pull it out. Literally. Silly gearlever So yeah, I should probably mention the Supra CT26 turbo and Eaton m45 I have to go on as well. This is a bit of fun experiment really. The Isuzus have a rep for strength. I'm going to see if thats well founded Project aims. 50mpg and 200bhp. May prove to be a fools errand, but hey, this is meant to be just a learning experience for me.

Finally!!
This can only end awesome..you know it...I know it....hell everyone knows it!
Have you worked out how you are gonna be mounting/piping up the supercharger yet? That's the one thing both me and Si can't quite decide on so perhaps we need a group discussion....

Thanks guys, I hope not to disappoint.
You can all place bets now on likely first engine failure..... I'm listing them in order of likelyhood.
1. Head Gasket 2. Melted Piston / burnt valves 3. Clutch kerplosion (they are TINY as stock.... I have a plan but that may lead to...) 4. Gearbox kerplosion (also have a plan) 5. Rod out the side of the block 6. Cracked head (ok may be more likely than that)
Steve..... initial mockup suggests s/c low down below where the alternator normally sits, and turbo facing back to front so that it can breathe in from the other side of the firewall for nice cold air and fire the boost straight into the inlet of the s/c (on the back of it). Only problem with that is working out a sensible exhaust root. Its still TBD. I just want to get the mounts made before I make the s/c mount. This reminds me I need to order an exhaust mani flange.
The thing that will slow this one down are that I have 1 day a week to work on it, and cashflow. I'm trying to keep it on a low budget and I don't think any individual thing has cost me more than £100 with the exception of the car and that was £170.
This ones staying china blue, but may have some fun colour coding if I get time.

Love this, and I'm sure it will be suitably awesome - will make a good combo with the blue monza! Must get to TAB again once mine's finished - happy to help

This does have all the signs of being an awesome project Is the plans that this will replace the scavalier for daily duties?? What are you doing gearing wise, I would have thought that a 1.8 petrol box and diff would be a bit low for teh TD lump?
