Good to see some more of these on the forum! I picked this one up a while a go as a little project so my mum could have something nice to get about in during the summer! £200 with 124,000 miles on it, new clutch, new HG etc, ran really well but the alternator and clutch release arm had seized up as it had been sat for nearly a year practically in a hedge! Only thing is one of the rear "steering arms" appears to have been bent so the tracking is out on the rear, its an ongoing project!

Hmmmm.... these guys are literally just up the road from me and have a kit for the MGF/TF that keeps the MG look. Seeing as I have a battered bonnet and wings and a respray would be needed, hmmmm...http://rps-ltd.info/news.html

Well, I laid it up in Feb when the MOT and tax ran out. Battery went flat, so gave it another slug of E-On's best and it came back from the dead (Lazarus brand, I think....). Anyhoo, once eldest child's wedding was disposed of, money became available again and it was dragged back from storage and run up, then the dreadded day was booked. Long and the short of it is, after a damn good wash, allowing to warm through and thrashing the brakes within an inch of getting smelly, the old heap passed it's test with no advisories, which is odd as I haven't done anything apart from a new tyre and radiator in the last year. Oh well, must be like a good wine and improving with age......

Okay, so I suppose I'd better update the summer's meanderings with the Shot! To be honest, not much happened until I met up with Garry from RPS Ltd, who does body mouldingd for MG's. To cut a long(ish) story short, he tittivated a MGTF to look like the MGSV, and it does certainly look different. He had been asked whether he was going to produce the special bonnet for the MGF, as there are differences in design at the front and when I met him first, he was in the middle of modding a TF bonnet to fit the F he had. In the end I bought the first bonnet out of the new mould, mainly because Shot!'s bonnet was pretty battered and the paint was coming adrift in places. The pic above was a week of so after fitting the bonnet, when I had a call from a local MGF owner to pump up the suspension on her car, so we met at a neutral location and the deed was done (and boy was her car flat!). I was still tweaking the fit and it looks like Shot! has had quite a knock at some point as the whole front needs re-aligning.... but that is for the winter months. The bonnet he has developed allows a full size spare to be carried and gives vents to the top of the radiator via an adapter piece. It really helps with high speed stability and overall cooling as the hot air can rise out of the rad instead of trying to defy physics and go downwards. There are other aerodynamic tweaks to the cooling he's come up with which I will be adding when the front is in bits for rebuild. Other than that the old heap has been quite reliable - apart from the alarm which has prompted a mod which I won't disclose! I did go to West Norfolk one day to sort out a car, only to find some bright clown had fitted rear spheres to the front which made it look like a rocket launcher once pumped up properly!

Been a bit quiet on the 'Shot' over the last few months; quick recap for you all. The RPS bonnet has been fiddled into place - it's not perfect but close enough. The internal baffling has finally been fitted and the upper rad block holes tidied up. Apart from assisting with cooling, this bonnet really improves stability at speed.... The hood is looking tired; I can't shift the mould off it no matter what I use so maybe a new one this year? I'll see.. I did decide to keep it useable over the winter instead of laying it up, so any nice dry days had some hoonage, which soon wiped out another tyre. Also the front calipers started dragging. I bought another pair of Ebay and two refurb kits, mainly because I could rebuild the 'new' calipers and do a straight swap. The job didn't take long; I now have fully functional brakes and no odd smells! Talking of smells, it still whiffs of petrol after some round-a-bout hoonage. Hmmm. Oh, and a pheasant hitched a ride through the front grille (luckily didn't reach the rad...). Anyway, MOT is due this month so fingers crossed.

Another year of hoonage beckons, passed the MOT at the second attempt due to an outbreak of tinworm in the rear of the sill, soon cured with a tap of hot glue and metal. Oh, and they picked up on the advisories from two years ago......

I had a little "Ooohhh s**t" moment last week when I cross-threaded the rad cap and it got a tad warm. Hopefully it wont have done any damage as it only lost 2 litres and the system holds 10. It is very easy to do as the cap doesnt have a full thread and sits at an odd angke anyway. I did wonder how many 'head gasket failures' could be attributed to this cause.... Anyway, been working on the RPS bonnet to make it more MGF-like and fit better; looks quite good now. Otherwise it bumbles on....

Wouldn't do any harm to whack a new one on. Hopefully add to your peace of mind. I had a similar incident with the 75 blowing coolant oug in traffic. Put a new cap on and so far its been ok.
