Hi there,
A friend asked me to look at his old (2005..) C15 van. I think it's a 1.9 but don't quote me on that. I belive the same relay is used on some Peugeots and most Citreons of the same age, eg Xantia, BX, AX etc.
When you turn the ignition the glow plugs don't come on. The relay doesn't fire. I've replaced the relay with a spare and it's the same.
Connections to the relay are:
Beefy ones
Constant 12v+ Feed from battery to one side of the relay
Switched 12v+ feed to glow plugs
5 pin plug (only 4 are used)
Ignition switched 12v+ from switch
Ground
Exciter wire from ECU (red one).
Other one whose role I can't remember.
Now if you supply 12V to the red wire the relay clicks and you get power out.
You can get it running by manually giving the glows 12v for a while.
Removing the glows doesn't make the relay click (so nothing's grounding it out).
So i've narrowed it down to the ECU not giving the signal for the relay to click on. Does anyone know what it bases that decision to glow or not on? I assume there's a temperature sensor somewhere but not sure which one or where it is.
If it is a temp sensor is there a way of testing it? EG ground it out or a particular resistive value.
I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere which makes troubleshooting very tricky.
Something else which might be a clue is that if you get it started by manually giving the glows power it bangs and rattles like a goodun and sounds like the timing is too advanced. Is there something with adjusts timing on temperature or something else?
Any help gratefully received .
