Right where to start, I recently sold my R129 Mercedes SL, I'd had it for sale, but then taken it down as it was just parked at my parents while I was away with work. Anyway a lovely chap knocked on the door, and after several emails and phone calls from my Dad a deal was done and it was gone. I'm a little bit heart broken truth be told, I'd always wanted an SL, but the whole experience was a bit disappointing as the car wasn't what I thought it would be, but I'm still sad to see it go, but I digress.
This of course left me carless, id always had a hankering for a 190e, so I thought id go back to something cheep that I can have a tinker about with and hopefully a bit of fun. I saw a beautiful one for sale on this very forum, I spoke to the seller Liam and made arrangements to view it while I was down in England on leave, (I'm based in the north of Scotland.) Anyway to cut a long story short due to work plans had to be changed and I never made it down to England that wee, and of course as it was such a lively looking car it was sold.
So I was a little disappointed after all what are the chances of a Mercedes 190e coming up for sale in the back end of nowhere in the North East of Scotland? Well last Friday amazingly one popped up on a Facebook Group called "Moray Cars under £1000" Arrangements were made to view it after work, but I was so excited I snuck off at 2pm to go and see the car.

I think we can al agree that even with the 3 Spokes that looks pretty bloody good! Hence my excitement to go and see it! When we finally found the place we were greeted by the most lovely lady called Greta, who not wishing to offend her must have been at least 75, but there was no sign of the car anywhere, only the brand new Renault Motability car on the drive, then she took us round to the garage and we were greeted by this
It looked even better in the Flesh, notice the carpet on the garage walls to protect the doors. It turned out Greta has owned this car since 1997, and really and truly loves it. She also told us it had been standing un used for 9 months and it was keeping her up nights worrying about her!
We ump started it, the engine sounds spot on despite its 182,000 miles (I have since found a receipt for a Re-Con engine in 2006, but no further information) the car looked beautiful the paint really shines (I have since found a receipt for a full respray in 2004 costing almost THREE GRAND!!!) the only bad bits on the body are a couple of scabs on the drivers front wing and Greta attempting to touch up the paint on the A pillar and the boot lid, I like the effort but she aint no painter!
This was enough for me I Had to have it, so a deal was done, for a really rather bargain price so long as I promised to look after her and take her to show Greta once she was back to full health. I swear she shed a tear when I was signing the paperwork.
We went back on Saturday morning to collect in my Pal Jimmys E30, that turned into a massive faff, but needless to say we got it going, got it booked in for an MOT, and got it back, Have a few more photos,
My Girlfriend assures me she wasn't posing in this photo, I will let you guys decide
It went in for the MOT, not unsurprisingly it failed, on hand brake adjustment, and they were unable to do emissions due to a water leak, this has turned out to be a faulty thermostat causing water to flow out of the header tank overflow. other than that all is well, there was an advisory for a bit of a noisy diff, but I knew about that, once I get the bits I will get the new stat in, service it and get it re tested, and then detail her up and get some better photos. Anyway I hope you all like the car we have christened her Greta in honour of her pervious owner!
