I recently inherited some car books, well I rescued the interesting looking ones before the rest went to the charity shop. Some aren't much use at the moment, but I am keeping the Jaguar XK140 and Austin Healey maintenance manuals for when I own such cars . However some of the more coffee table books have some interesting stuff in which I'll probably use to launch some (hopefully) interesting threads. One of the books is The Worlds Great Automotive Stylists, and it has some interesting stuff in it. Jacques Brasseur is responsible for some of my favourite cars, namely the Facel Vega. What I didn't realise is that before he worked designing at Facel Vega he designed the Ford Vedette Comete. The what? I hear you say... indeed, I had to google it too. The car was also built by Simca (such was the nature of the car industry then and now) There is a little bit about them on Wikipedia : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_ComèteAnyone know anything more? Anyone ever seen one in the flesh? Can anyone find one for sale now (I checked the usual sources...)

I think they were a coach built "halo" car, used a Ford Flathead V8 and the chassis from the big Simca V8 (Vedette?) saloon, also a Ford flathead. Sold through both Simca and Ford dealers. Simca also used the flathead in army trucks.
Did see both the Comete and the Vedette when I was invited to a French classic car show, whilst on holiday in my Triumph.
Can't add pictures, my internet speed is too slow!

There seems to be a whole heap of ultra cool Simca coupes of this period, others also styled but some quite big names. Do like. Would add less ride height and more Watson style paint.

Yes!
I found one in a collection abroad (must start a thread on that when I get a mo') and got a few nice pics. I had no idea what it was either. The interior was gorgeous, Art Deco, glamorous, the company was bought by Ford then went under as I recall. Pics later, I promise.
PS - same guy had a Facel Vega. One of my faves too.

I'd love a Vedette. They occasionally come up over here, but I guess a trip to France would not be out of the question...

Got some bandwidth, so here's the photos (better late then never!) Very nice car, if a bit slab sided, very influenced by early Ferrari designs.

Didn't these also come with a Simca design 2,5 V8?
