I have a tall order for those who know their stuff about cars. I'm looking for a new cooler, more fun and quicker car (which isn't hard as I have a 1993 astra). But the catch being I only have about 1500 to spend maybe a bit more for the right thing g. I don't need something very quick just not slow. I'm pretty open minded so give us all you got but I'm only 18 so insurance is still a curse word. Personally I was thinking of a mk2 scirocco or a mr2 aw11 but love to see what you guys have to say. Could do a bit of a project with light restoration but in reality I'm curse word with engines so can't fix anything very hard haha, Cheers guys!

Nova Sri. pug 205. citron ax look for cars like the obove all cheap to insure. All handle like go carts so great fun you will always have more fun in a car that handles like a go kart than something with a bit of power that is a tank

Honda Civic CRX Del Sol, stick to the ESi and the insurance will be sensible but you still get a VTEC.
Go-kart handling and the roof comes off.
Just watch for rust on the rear quarters.

Considering that you're 18 most car's are gonna be a killer on insurance and classic insurance isn't obtainable.
I'd go for an MX5, plenty of change out your budget for a nice one, 2 seater sports car, nippy, handle like a go kart and will be cooler than anything your mate's are driving.
Suzuki Capuccino's and Daihatsu Cuore/Mira's are cool little Kei csr's too, small 600cc turbo's so nippy but shouldn't be too bad on insurance and cheap to run!

All comes down to insurance. Insurance is the reason I got into older cars due to 25+ year old cars being cheaper to insure. £1500 can get you something well worth having though. Stay away from the hot hatches and insurance can be reasonable. I heard a 2.0 Capri is one of the cheapest cars to insure for young driver these days, might be worth a punt? You could always start with something quite modest (for example a small hatchback or saloon like a Herald or a non GTi MK1 Golf), spend some money and time on handling and aesthetics and plan to drop a more powerful engine in when your insurance comes down in a few years. Look forward to your 21st birthday when premiums come down a lot and you can get classic and modified insurance.
If insurance isn't a problem, get a nice mk1 MR2, I'll be very jealous

I'd be one to second an MX5 or eunos on specialist insurance.
My first car was a little red triumph spitfire. Although first off it seems a bit impractical, it only has 2 seats so you never get asked to be the taxi into town, relatively small capacity engine so cheap insurance, front engined rear wheel drive so a nice easy layout to work on so cheap maintainance. All in all nice fun nippy top down motoring.
As luck would have it, I'll be selling the MX5 this weekend so if you are around midlands way feel free to drop me a PM.

With an MX5 you get the bonus that it's RWD (Same with the Mister Two). Personally I *really* like the idea of a Cappuccino, but they're very very small (they have to be to be Kei cars) so not to everyone's taste. To add another couple to the mix - Mitsubishi FTO. My brother has one, bought for less than a grand, and a very nice looking car IMO. - Mazda RX8. Super cheap due to the (potentially) ticking time bomb under the bonnet. Should be ok if you get one that's well looked after and keep on top of the oil.

You'd be surprised. A friend of mine bought an old BMW 525 at 19 because at the time it was cheaper to insure than his Pug 206 diesel. Sometimes to do with statistics. I guess more 19 year old crashed 206s than BMW 5 series

In fact my first car at 17 was a 205 XS, then a Rallye at 18 - was only £1300 f/c for XS & £2100 f/c for the Rallye... 15 years ago lol. Although it's a lot easier to find decent insurance now the internet exists lol.

Almost since I past my test I've driven big german and swedish tanks. But at 39 I moved to MX5's and never looked back. Mid-life crisis I think :-)

Porsche 924.
Best thing to do is go onto go compare as they came up with more policies for older cars than the others I found. Get a shortlist of cars you like then go onto ebay and get a few reg numbers and get quotes for them. It's easier to edit quotes with reg numbers and you don't have to mess about re typing your info.
