Hey guys,
Its my first post on here and i have done endless research and have not come across the information I'm looking for
Basically i have the chance to get a completely scrap Laurel SGX 2.4l straight 6 L2.4E Manual.
The obvious problems just by looking at it is -
Rust - not sure how bad but i know there is a lot, but for the price I'm not bothered about that because if i end up stripping it down and it looks too bad ill just scrap it.
Head gasket is blown - The head has been taken off but I'm not sure if it needs re-skimming or anything.
Manual Gearbox - The current owner took the gearbox out for his auto laurel, so I'm assuming he has taken the clutch/pedal box/etc with the gearbox so it has no transmission at all.
Windscreen is cracked which could be a problem because i can't seem to find anyone that can fit a new windscreen for me.
On the plus side it has only been off the road for 2 years but been stored in a dry garage for a big chunk of its life and (hopefully) it has been undersealed at some point so the bottom is as rusted as some of the panels look.
So, i have looked for a gearbox and only found one for £600 and thats just the box, nothing else.
So I've come to the conclusion that it will probably be cheaper just to drop a different engine and gearbox in (something a bit more common and cheaper). The obvious choice is RB20DET, but i was just wondering if anything else will go in as easy? Something better maybe? Seen a few posts about things like the VG30DETT which is a lot harder and just as rare as a new L2.4E engine so i have given up on those dreams, so something semi-sensible that isn't too hard to drop in would be ideal if anyone has any experience in engine swaps in the C32? Or if you could point me in the right direction of someone who could help?
Thanks very much for anyone who can help!
Long story short (for people who didn't want to read all of that ) -
What is an easy engine and manual transmission to drop into a Laurel C32 that is a straight swap or with minimum modifications?
