Well past my traffic light Grand Prix days,, but a cautionary tale for youngers members! Back in the day we were sat at a set of lights in bexleyheath on a Saturday night I was 18 and driving a 77 bmw 320 , I was paying more attention to the girlsin the car next to us in a car I was on the near side and forgot the lights sequence had been changed for filtering they took off laughing at us,, I took off to straight into the back off a Granada estate! The bloke got out and was a big old fella, cost me the nights petrol money as I broke his rear lights...... The said girls came back past laughing and gesticulating ..... Prize plonker but I guess that's how you learn
I share your pain Dan but only as a passenger - Bear with me, this is a True Story - You couldn't make it up!
One night in 88, I was a passenger in my friends Mk2 Harrier. We were 'Cruising' the streets of Farnham in Surrey for 'Posh Totty' as you do. So as to impress the ladies, my pal gave it full beans away from the lights only for the gearbox to detach itself from the engine! (I nearly messed myself when the gear lever shot down through the floor, I can tell you!) Prop dropped off the spline, hit floor and oil everywhere of course. It was about 8pm and getting dark so we had to jack it up roadside, and try to get the box back on. Typically, I could only find 3 bolts on the road.
After an hour, we managed to get it to a point where we could limp back to Aldershot which we duly did. We found some more bolts, made sure everything was sound and set off back to Farnham at pace.

Here comes the last bit - Upon the drive towards Farnham, my Pal realises we are low on fuel and so heads for 'The 6 bells' late night filling station (In 88, the only filling station open after 7pm) He came hacking into the forecourt, turned in towards the pump and SMASH - Straight into the back of a Scirocco! All four Cibie Super Oscars, smashed to pieces and a rather shocked VW owner stood there holding a piece of petrol pipe that had sheared when the Scirocco lurched forward 3 feet on impact.
As already stated, this all happened in ONE evening - You just couldn't make it up!
