Hi all. Just bought a p100 and have been looking into changing it to 4x108. Fronts arent a problem, either swap hubs or struts for sierra. Probably find complete struts as it will lower it a bit as well. The rear however looks to be more complicated, either using a capri axle or xr4x4 set up. Both pretty hard to find and look to be expensive. Also i don't have a lot of time to spend doing big conversions. So my question is.... can i just swap the halfshafts?? If not a straight swap could capri ones be modified? Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

no. the axle on the p100 is a transit axle, and isnt related to the capri atlas or english axles. hybrid axle have been made, but it involves a lot of messing about, machining, welding etc- the easiest way is to swap over a whole axle off something else.
if youre not looking to put a lot of power through it, and are doing it mostly for looks, the koln axle off later cortinas is a cheaper option to an atlas or english.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Not looking for extra power at the minute as it seems to be a good pinto. Just wanted to open up my choice of wheels. Will start a hunt for a new axle, unless you know of one or some mice wheels that will fit?

A cortina axle will be cheaper than a capri axle but just remember a cortina axle is 2 inches wider than the capri axle, either option you need to weld/reweld in spring mounts. You could redrill the drums and halfshafts but unless you can do it yourself the axle change is the cheaper option or use PCD adapters on the rear, the rear axle is rather narrow on the P100, wheels that fill the front arches look a bit lost on the rear, my 8 spokes fill the rear loverly but stick out at the front by a good inch+ so spacer/adpters may well do the job ?

Is the 2 inch wider cortina axle better then if the original p100 is a bit narrow?

I have a capri 3.0 axle on mine and I have 9Jx16" rims on it - Even I have a 1" spacer to fill arches!
