Sounds like too much play - I think taking the play out drops the pedal height (At least you haven't got the agro of an adjustable fulcrum to also cause issues) Aye that was my first guess. Adjuster is pretty wound in so the cable must be pretty well stretched. I may make a spacer of some kind at work for the clutch fork adjuster just to give me a bit extra for the time being. Will have to have a fiddle about to try and sort it! Again still not sure why the parking brake switch comes on when clutch is out. Need an investigate I think!

There is a switch at the end of the pedal box - it's purpose is to tell you when the clutch is worn out by illuminating the handbrake light You can always activate it by pulling the bottom of the clutch pedal towards the driver but it should not be lighting up in normal operation unless the pedal height is incorrectly set - which I think yours is

Right, been under the car a few times this week to figure out what this is, and after some troubleshooting i've deduced that I have the wrong thrust bearing. I'm thinking the kit I bought (for a 2l Carlton, but I didnt realise there were variants of this) had a different bearing than the one I need. Plus the fact that my dad did the bearing and clutch while I had lunch, and only told me the other day that the one he pulled out was different to the one he put in (metal body vs plastic body). There is a good 3-4mm of play in the lugs on the fork and the flat section of the bearing, allowing it to move. Not good. I took a video to show it. So, I bought a new LUK clutch bearing and used my number plate to get one that'll 100% be right for the car. Started working on the car at 430 today and had the gearbox out at 530. Getting good at this gearbox malarky New bearing should be arriving tomorrow, hopefully its different! Want to finally get it insured and taxed so we can give it a shakedown!

Right, so an update on clutch issues! The bearing didn't do anything, so I decided to put it down to the clutch. It was a fairly cheapo one after all! So I bought an LUK jobbie and popped it in. Done 150 miles and so far so good. Still get the wobble between 1100 and 1500 rpm but either side of that is spot on. No nasty noises or smells. I'm hoping it'll die down so am driving it as much as possible! Got my new belt so I could delete the unused viscous pulley: Then I fitted the CB. Quite a neat install actually as it meant all wires were hidden and no brackets were needed. Aerial wire runs along the edge of the headlining and down behind the dash. I just crimped blade connectors onto the cb radio wires then plugged them into the plug for the clock as that is permanent 12v. Seems to be working ok but I've nobody to test it with yet! Foam pad is to stop it rattling. So now MOT, service, rewire a fan switch and then that'll be us I think..... For now....

Also took it for a celebratory run up cairn o mount, which is very very steep and hilly! Seemed to tackle it okay but did need a good run up for the steeper ones.

All groovy stuff. When is the big day?

Thats really looking the part now! Yep it looks great! At a point where we are just creating a list of things to bring All groovy stuff. When is the big day? 28th of June is the leaving date! So Hopefully all of the kinks have been smoothed out. It will be going to Edinburgh on the 20th for the leaving party so that will be a good trial. Well finger has come out of the proverbial behind and the car is properly insured for us both on Wednesday. It also has its MOT on wednesday as well! Decided to book it to see if theres anything needing done. I really cant see why it would fail... Until I got home and realised the passenger side washer jet sprays all over the engine bay! Cool. Silicon time to seal up the scoosher. Will recheck tomorrow. If not it will be a mad scramble to find one that fits in time for its MOT. Also after some hums and ahs, I fitted a new auxiliary fan switch... Much better! Now need to rewire the left hand foglight (for which the power was used for the fan) and we'll be shining like a diamond. Then a service this weekend as well as packing tools and various supplies for the trip. HOPING that the MOT tester sees the fun in the car and isn't too strict. In other news, we have a 'just giving' page where we are raising money for Macmillan. We've raised staggering £1000 and climbing. Really blown away by the generosity of people and the fact we can donate so much for a good cause The link is here: www.justgiving.com/Jack-Ledingham Toodlepip til MOT results!

Put a electric fan in there have you?

Put a electric fan in there have you? Yeah the electric fan was in there before but was wired to the front foglight switch. Quite inconvenient! This way we can use the foglights and have a better, cooler looking fan switch

If you need one that doesn't leak but doesn't have a heater facility anymore I have a few emergency spares - shout if you need one and I'll sling it in the post to you (they are all heated all the time and the heater eventually fails - only solution is new ones if you value the heated facility so I have a few that are leak free but no longer heat up - and this means don't plug them in or they'll pop a fuse) Put a electric fan in there have you? Fantastic. My dad had a saloon GSI 3000 in the early 1990s. I remember mostly that it was quick, comfortable and the driver's electric window kept getting stuck. Which was the same problem with the Rover 827 Vitesse he had before that.
Sorry, I'm being nostalgic. You have a good car!

This is fantastic, are you intending to keep us updated on your adventure with words and lots of photos? Thats the idea! Not sure how well i'll be able to keep it updated as we go as I'm not sure if we'll get any decent internet signal anywhere. So If I do have something to update it may only be a photo and a little bit of writing until I get home and can do a proper big update. Cheers! But I managed to sort it with silicon. The body was cracked so water could spurt out the sides and the back. The silicon seams to have totally sealed it so thatll do And yes i've used a relay! All seems to be working fine so far. Strange how they are practically obsolete now. ------------------ Well, the results are in. And the result is a P A S S! What a relief. Advisories were barely worth a mention either! Number plates deteriorated (have had new ones donated) Rear brake pads wearing thin... These will be replaced this week coming. Fuel pipes slightly corroded and battery light on (which is a wiring issue as the alternator is charging the battery fine) Thats it! perfect. Although the guy at the garage was telling me how the car was getting a bit hot on the ramps. He said 'I don't think your water pump is connected to anything mate'. To which I told him that was the shaft for the viscous fan, and the water pump is on the timing belt. He wasn't using the electric fan hence why it got hot. Doh! So a list of things to do is: Small service Rear pads

When I put it in for its last mot I made sure to tell the tester about the broken viscous fan as I hadn't wired in a fan.

I was going to tell them, but I figured since there is a huge red switch on the dash that has 'FAN' written in big letters underneath, I wouldnt need to.... I was obviously wrong haha.
