The car is a '81 280e, and I'm trying to get the starter motor off. The bottom bolt is out, but the top one appears to need a 10mm allen key with a flexible handle to clear the gearbox.
What's the easy way please?

This is getting embarrassing. The car is a friends, who is rapidly losing confidence in my abilities. I have tried many combinations of this lot; Both from above and below, but there is just NO ROOM to move any tools about. Before I try to make an allen key that looks like a curly straw, can anyone offer any advice please. This is the little blighter; . . . thought w123s were designed to be fixed at the side of the road . . .

If you undo the gearbox mount and let the engine drop down a bit at the back you can get in there with the allen key attached to two socket extensions.
Hope that helps, Dave
