Is the sub 100 pound car possible again

Just wondering if scrap keeps falling , if the good old days of cars with a whole years ticket will be going for 50 quid or people giving away cars , or is this just a thing of the past

Definitely still a thing, I think they're just rarely advertised (autotrader etc.) for sub £100 prices.

They usually come from people you know ("My mate's nan has given up driving, she wants £100 for her K10 Micra" etc), or lucky finds (Like my old Renault 5 that was found parked in the street with a 'For sale - £50' on a piece of paper in the window, that I quickly bought etc).

If anything I think its easier to find cheap as chips car with the advent of Facebook and local 'things for sale' groups.

Its slowly filtering through to people that their "I'd get 250 scrap" cars are more like "I'd get 70 scrap" cars and they'll go for a lot less. No tax, no scrap value. Wouldn't surprise me if stuff starts getting abandoned again.

It is possible, I picked up a vtr saxo for £80 with not till September will make a good trials car.

What stealthstylez says rings true. Still that's a bit of a nail is now useless as ithas no tax to pass on so no one really wants it to run around in and scrap is worthless so the values will fall. In theory.

not 100 quid, but i got an s reg 1.6 primera with mot till june for 150 quid last week.
its the late 90-early 00 stuff that will be that money, newer stuff is worth 2 much in salvage parts, and older stuff has normally been kept on the road because they like the car/sentimental value as a pose to it just being a "car" to get from a-b.

£50 98 Fiesta reasonably good no test
£100 00 Focus mint with alloys snapped belt
£70 53 Primera snapped cam
£100 52 Stilo rough

You can find cars under £100 with mot, but I find that they need major work, like timing belts snapped, or head gaskets need doing.

Had a chap come in to work a couple of days back and he's running around in an Astra G diesel. It's tested til August or September and he paid £30 for it. So cheap cars are about but the knock on is that we have a few dead ones about that haven't been collected as they aren't worth 'owt

I've seen a few cars locally for less than the particular models were making last year,, I have trouble walking away from anything for 100 to 200 quid!!! Oh for the days of 100 quid mk1 escorts again...

£100 mk1 LoL ,I paid £25 for one with tax mot but that was in 1992.

Cheap E36s aren't within 100 miles of a drift track anyway....
If that's a manual 6 pot, drive it to Driftland and add a zero!

Just how low is the scrap price now??

A couple of years ago, it was such that if I popped indoors for a wee / cuppa mid-fettling, by the time you came back half your stuff would be gone.

I've had a big full yellow tub of bits clearly marked as SCRAP METAL sat outside the garage now for two weeks and not even a knock at the door from the dids, let alone just helping themselves...

I don't even know what to do with it as you can't take car parts to the tip...

Scrap is £60 a ton in Grantham.

I get a sub £100 car every week or so, most people still think their scrap is still worth £200+ and get moody when you tell them the reality.

Light iron and cars without engines or cats is 50 quid a ton up here, our local tip will take anything if you ask the right chap
