Hi! I am about to start on a project for a a 1973 Toyota KE25 (sl coupe)
Before I finalise the deal with the seller next week i just would feel more confident being able to source parts into the UK. In this case its a Toyota Corolla sl Coupe 1973. The engine I believe is 3K — 1.2 L (1,166 cc) I4, 8-valve. The engine has already had a fully rebuild.
I need to source pretty much full replacement front and rear suspension with all bushes. The steering parts I can likely find from a more modern car such as an MR2, as it's already had a steering box conversion. If anyone has any sources of parts for old Japanese cars, namely KE25 in the UK or worldwide with Uk shipping I would be very grateful.
Looking to get involved with the forum and make a good project out of this car.

 As requested here are the first couple of snaps I took when I went to see the car. It's Sitting a bit funny, leaf springs at back are sagging at the back and not sure about the wheels myself, would get some WolfRace or Minilites I reckon. Body is a bit worse than it looks when you go in close it needs fully taking back to bare metal for prep and paint. But just want to get it running first. Can anyone help me with where to source full replacement suspension parts for this? New Zealand dealer maybe? I'm having trouble finding anything good in the UK. Are these cars quite rare in the UK now? It's going for 3k, seems reasonable? I have first refulsal |

A fair chunk of parts should be available through Australia motor-wise, too. Leaf springs aren't, though. I wanted to replace the ones under my Minor, but I struggled to find anything suspension related apart from eye-bushes. KE35s are pretty popular down here so there is reasonable shifting of parts going on. Might want to brush up on your yahoo.jp skills, though.  If you're not fussed about keeping it stock, there are plenty of bits and bobs from other cars that seem to fit, although online documentation is a little scarce. |

Toyota Corolla KE20 2DR -RWD 1.2 For Sale (1973)This one for sale on Classic Cars Uk looks alot more complete and tidier. Ready to Roll. Just not sure on the colour - Save me a fortunes taking the orange one back to bare metal and re doing everything, suspension steering etc?

I'm still undecided, I think the current owner said they were from a Subaru. Thanks for your input so far! Anyway i'm going to make an offer on the car tomorrow. If all goes well I will take some more detailed photos and start a project page for it. I am linking the photos from my dropbox account, not sure what the issue is they are not coming up on my iphone but work on my laptop. If anyone has any ideas about sourcing parts for this car or knows what more modern car suspension will fit this car please let me know. Cheers! |

Ive got a KE30 (2door) and getting parts is a nightmare but doable, I have added a few parts that came off other cars ie brake booster from a starlet etc. suspension bushes can be got, I think powerflex do a set. and you can swap over arms and such from later models but do your research first as replacing one part from a newer model may mean you have to also change others to get it all to fit. Whiteline also do an uprated arb though id avoid this as on standard everything else it'll handle in an unpredictable way. rear springs, I'm fairly certain, mk1/2 escort etc ones fit, though I haven't tried myself they do appear to be the same dimensions so might be worth investigating. the 3k-c engine is fairly bullet proof just watch for perished hoses. oh and the clutch cable retainer is meant to be a jubilee style clip and they tend to snap (mine did whilst driving, not fun) cant think of anything else off the top of my head but they're awesome cars and turn a lot of heads, though mine is probably because its a bit rusty and looks like it should be in a field  |

That's great thanks for the tips : it seems although it is a pain to find parts it is worth it as the cars look so great.
I would hope I can just get the whole suspension set up from a more modern car and hopefully it will handle better too .
Are you based in the UK then?
Have any pics of your car ?
Know it MR2 parts fit?

Front struts can be fitted from an AE86. You will need the steering arms (the things which sit on top of the ball joint) from a TE20/21/27, then it's a straight swap. Easier for coilovers and better brakes, the only down side is, you'll gain 1,5 degree of positive camber due to the angle of the struts, a set of camber plates solve that (Cusco do a set for TE27, which fits the KE as well). Rear shocks are the same as most RWD Toyota's.

Yes the Brake are completly shot and I think new ones all round form a better car would be ideal. Can the Rear suspension be changed? As the leaf springs are saggin somewhat? i can't see pictures, but if it's a 70-74 Coupe with a 1.2 engine, then it's a KE25  For my KE20 (technically the same) i build my own coilovers. AE86 struts, shortened by 4cm, short stroke shocks from a FWD Corolla GTI (AE92) and a rallydesign coiloverkit destined for an Escort MK1, which fits the AE86 strut housings perfectly.  Those KYB shocks you linked are probably inserts, so you'd need a whole set of AE86 struts as well, and they are not ride height adjustable. AE86 running gear is not immediatly an upgrade, but KE20/25 suspension stuff is smaller and very hard to find, if you swap to the bigger AE86 struts, the world is your oyster I don't know about the rear, i'm still using stock leafsprings with loweringblocks and a Whiteline ARB. |

I have been dreading finding bits for the car but it now seems more hopeful. A few further questions - Can the rest of the front suspension be Ae 86? Any suggestions for steering rack? Steering Arms, Wishbones etc?
- When shortening the Ae 86 front struts did you chop 4cm where the tread is? where in your picture the uprated coil over kit is?

all of my suspension stuff is stock, just the struts i use from an AE86. I even have the stock recirculating ball steeringhouse still fitted, works perfectly in my opinion. So i have KE20 wishbones, toe arms and steering. TE21/27/28 steering arms and AE86 struts with brakes. I chopped the struts 4cm in the middle and welded it back together (well, somebody else did that for me!  ) as i don't own a die to cut the new thread in the tube that big |
