On buying second hand ramps - is there anyone out there who can put these in properly? There's no way I'm trusting myself with this. Hi, not sure I understand what you're asking? If it's that you've not driven a car onto ramps before, an easy & safe option I sometimes use (if I'm short of space for manouvering etc) is to lift the wheel using a trolley jack under the axle/subframe/crossmember, then manually slide the ramp under the wheel where I want it - then take the jack away. Hope that makes sense, apologies if I've mis-read the question and given you info you already know I found it helped my confidence when I started doing DIY if I had a trusted helper to guide me on (and stop me driving off the end of!) the ramps Go for it, what's the worst that could happen Hope it helps...

I'm guessing he means a vehicle lift/hoist, commonly mis-refered to in the UK as a 'ramp'

I had a potentially nasty experience with some ramps many years ago. Drove my XJ6 up them and then went to get something out of the garage only to find the ramps were slowly collapsing. I dread to think what could have happened if I was underneath. Turned out the ramps were tubular and the inner areas weren't painted so had rusted internally until metal thickness reduced to point where they couldn't support the weight of the Jag. I'll never have tubular ramps again and now have hefty angle iron version. Worth remembering if you have older tubular ramps ?

^ a mate has a few 2-post lifts in his garage. The cable ones hold fine, the other (hydraulic?) works fine but creaks and slowly creeps down so it's not safe to leave it up for long with a prop or jack under the car
