I think with no tax and on the road they will crush it into a little box and ship it to china. No, if you leave an untaxed car on the road and IF the DVLA see it it can get clamped and then 24 hours later it will get lifted to a compound you then have seven days to tax/ pay bond and pay the release and towing costs to get the car back.

Okay firstly the police will not and can not impound and crush a car just because it does not have an MOT, it is only a FPN offence and the reason why dismantlers/ insurers say that the car is not roadworthy/ MOT is void is to stop people driving off down the road and then trying to claim of them when they crash or get pulled for driving an unroadworthy car. not having an MOT and not being roadworthy are two very different offences. @1300dolly, you're a tester aren't you? What's your view on the MOT status after it's been written off? Are they just saying it doesn't have one or in the eyes of the law (or a tester) does it need one done? Lots of views above but I don't know if anyone above is a tester.

Clearly the laws have changed a bit.
I have bought a couple of CAT-Ds and and had a car made a CAT D. When my car was made a CAT-D I was informed by both the DVLA and the insurance co. that it would need to be Re-MOT'd. That was 10 years ago though.
After that however, I had no issues with anything else.

Worse case, £45 for a fresh MOT. That is precisely how I saw it. If anything else, at least I could be assured the repair was half decent. I smoked around in that Focus for another few years after that .

Lots of views above but I don't know if anyone above is a tester. I'm not a tester but am up to date with the rules. regs and laws. Legally speaking it will still have a valid MOT the only people who can rescind a test status are VOSA but the car has to be roadworthy, which as said before is very different to a car having a valid MOT, to be used on the road and some insurers will ask for it to have a new test and for the sake of £55.85 I would get it tested for peace of mind and to cover your .

It was " recommended" that we put a new mot on my mums old crash damaged toyota, we never did and it flew straight through when mot time came, didn't repair it either as it was rear 1/4 and affected nothing. Point that most cars mot's have expired after being stored could be a good one, we had some in our place for months on end.
