I went to see a 1976 Cavalier Coupe for sale just down the road from me in Glastonbury recently & decided to buy it.
The car has been off the road & stored in a lockup since October 2011.
The brakes were seized front & rear & it wouldn't start but underneath the dust & cobwebs i could see that it was a good car & i loved the colour.
I got a mate to pick up the car with me today & once we dragged it out of the garage the wheels freed them selves, ironically it was stored in a yard next to a Vauxhall main dealer & several of the staff came out to take a look as they didn't realise a classic Vauxhall was stored under their noses !
Here are some pictures i took as found & loaded on the transporter & when i got it back last week.
Once i got it home i set about cleaning it up cleaned up the LT connections & it fired up, there is quite a history file with the car. It had a restoration in 1999 & has had a replacement 2.0 engine fitted which has only done 19,000 miles. The car has done very little mileage since 1999 & has always been garaged.
Interior is very good with no cracks in the dash board.
Here it is when first home.
Here it is after cleaning up & recommissioning started in my garage.
Engine bay after cleaning up & detailing.
Needs two bits welding both in the nearside wheel arch for the MOT other than that its in remarkable time warp condition
The car is an early model in an unusual colour which was used by Vauxhall from 1971 to end of 1975 so was only on a few early Cavaliers.
It is an automatic which may put some people of but as it's such a time warp car & its the 40th anniversary of the launch of the MK1 Cav & Opel Manta B so i'm gonna leave it as it is.
My plans are to smoke it around for the next few months & take it to the annual VBOA rally at Billing Northants in July then i may sell it
