Ok, for those interested (that means you Dan..lol) Behold, the new barge S210 Pretty Mint interior (Mrs cleaned and fed earlier today) Non Standard but period?? 6 disc changer in boot Acres of room!! Towbar - Handy for towing the drag car Original dealer plates Only real scratch on otherwise really tidy paintwork Horrible wheels - Hope to nab a cheap set of mono's sometime in 17/18" flavour So here we have it - 2 owner, FMBSH up to 100,500 miles (Now showing 111,400 so due) So, the little story of how I ended up buying two.... Upon obtaining my new barge, my 68yr old father stated that as he recently adopted a dog, he wanted to purchase an estate car of some description to ferry him about safely. He basically said, 'If you don't like it, I will buy it off you right away' - I did like it. So did my Mum... you can see where this is going right?? After I removed my mother dragging and screaming from the sumptuous leather I was tasked with finding another forthwith. Upon seeing mine and how good it was for £560, I advised my Dad that he wasn't going to get one quite as good but possibly £1000 might get him a usable example.. Quick as a flash, he was sent by Mother to building society to get the cash (I kid ye not) whilst I was left scouring the internet for another one. Quite a few on Ebay for under £1000 so we picked the closest - In Ascot. The call was made and we were to meet the owner at 7.30pm Friday night for viewing. Upon arriving, it was nowhere near as clean & tidy as mine but was advertised as £999ono. The owner told us that he was the 2nd owner and had bought it a year earlier for a mile muncher. Now that they had young kids, they wanted a MPV so bought a Zafira and the E240 was now surplus. Looking past the filthy paintwork and rust scabs here and there, it wasn't that bad. The pixels on the clock had gone, there was one reversing light out and the front mono wiper had seen better days but it drove lovely. £700 later and father left with it for home. Fault list on both cars below. Mine - Silver Reversing lights inoperable? Needs oil & filter change Sometimes 'Jerky' throttle at slow speeds? Front fog lights do not work - previous owner said something sparked when he changed a bulb, and now they are both gone! Blue/Black Dad's car Needs 1 x Reversing light looking at Needs oil & filter change Needs wiper blades Paint chips all over need addressing Rusty arches need a look at Interior needs thorough clean Bulbs above sun visors both blown? Mine will get used tomorrow for a run to Hayling Island for the Hot Rod reunion so will report back MPG achieved.

Lovely:
RE the German Plates. They've started getting a bit hot on it around these parts, and the police are making an example of people who do it. (Check @roadpolicebch on Twitter). One knob did, in fairness, have a white plate on the rear - but they're on it.
Anyway, top shopping.

Well bought there, two luxury barges for less than 1.5 bags!
I'm really liking the silver one, that's exceptionally tidy for a 210. I assume that'll be the straight six diesel? Although I admit to liking the colour, wheels and lower ride height of your dad's one. As my personal favourite Mercs (190s) seem to be climbing in price, I'm coming around to the fact that a 210 may end up on my drive some day. At least there seems to be a good amount of rust free ones about. A silver E320 cdi avantgarde with leather and staggered monos will do me!
As for German plates, I've done it and had the fine... the fact the wife was driving the car at the time it was stopped didnt go down well either! I wasn't really taking the mick with the plates either. I had GB badges at the side and they were properly spaced as per UK plates, but having spent a while picking over the 20 year old car with a fine toothcomb and not finding anything wrong, the nice policemen decided to fine her for the plates. I still think pressed steel plates look good but with the German font you are running a risk of either getting at best, a VDN or a fine like the mrs did. A good compromise might be the UK font pressed plates, there are plenty of that style on ebay.

I also intend to lower mine at a later date. Both are E240 V6 Petrol.

Agreed. Just got lucky too. Whilst waiting for the Mrs outside the local Co-op, I had a brief look through the extensive history file and found that it had a full gearbox service last year. New gaskets, filters and fresh oil by a Mercedes specialist in Hartley Wintney. It hasn't had an oil change for 10,000 miles now so that is next on my list to do. That said, the £67 required for recommended Mobil 1 synthetic oil is putting it off for a month for me. Which brand of oil filters are OEM on these?

If the gearbox doesn't shift smoothly try giving it some fresh oil first, theres a couple of places about that give it a full flush that usually helps to get the box back into smooth cruizing mode, but just oil and filter is good enough most of the times.
as these boxes were said to be sealed for life, low mileage cars sometimes still have the factory ATF in them, which doesn't do them any good.

I had a complete gearbox overhaul last year. I think it's more likely the TPS at fault.
