Morning all...
I've recently got hold of some old alloy wheels, which are in a pretty poor state - see below... The original paint is flaking off in chunks, and due to the detail on the wheels a manual wet & dry session would be something of a marathon event.
I've asked around to get a quote for getting the dip stripped, and so far the going rate is around £30 a wheel, which is more that the wheels cost to begin with...
Does anyone have any good methods of stripping back wheels which might be easier than going over every millimetre with wet n' dry?

Just get them blasted - should be less than a tenner a wheel...

The guy I use for sand/media blasting charges me 50 quid a set so I just do that...
Could always soak in a tub of nitromors over night and use a pressure washer on them the next day...

Blasting sounds like a plan (if I can find somewhere nearby that's reasonable cost wise).
I did consider nitromors, but since they changed from the good stuff to what they now sell as nitromors it's not nearly as effective; I'd be quicker licking the paint off myself...

I have heard of caustic soda on steel wheels, don"t know if it works on alloys. Have you tried a flap wheel on a drill? ?

Maybe brick acid would shift it off but needs to be washed off quickly...

I would want them blasted or dipped . They look pretty corroded and i would want to be sure any corrosion is gone so the new paint or laquer does not fall off after a while .

As you have a lot of oxidised alloy on them i would think more on bead blasting or sand blasting . Then you will need etching primer .At the end of the day its quicker and cheaper to get the experts to sort them out.I did refurb my wheels on the merc ,but only the paint was missing ,an easy job to rub down and prime ,then top coat , and clear laquer to finish.

Ratta disks would sort that in no time.
