Fantastic driver, watched him on the RAC rally in the early sixties, posting many fastest stage times, beating the top works teams with a 850cc 2 stroke FWD car. He married Pat Moss, Stirling's sister, who was no slouch in a rally car herself, winning many rallies in the lady's class and beating many of the top men drivers along the way. Eric invented left foot braking, enabling him to slide the back end whilst keeping his boot down on the throttle in order to keep the high revving 2 stroke motor on the cam. RIP Eric Carlsson.

The man was indeed a legend and as a long time Saab fan I appreciate what he did to make them famous. Point of detail though, 2 strokes don't have valves and therefore don't have cams either so he wasn't keeping it "on the cam", I think he just loved to rev the nuts off them! Steve

Perhaps "on the pipe" is a better term? haha
Sad news, but you certainly couldn't argue it wasn't a life well lived - RIP
