I'll be fitting a replacement engine to my '67 Imp and would like to start from O once it is fitted so,how do I reset the odometer? the current one looks to be a sealed unit for want of a better term but isn't the original one for the car so the millage is meaningless anyway. what are my options? regards Bryan

I can't see the point of zeroing your odometer to be honest, just make a note of the mileage when you drop the new engine in.
Cool looking Imp by the way!

Depends on the cable sticking out of the back of it, but usually you attach a drill to it and then depress the trigger and come back a few days later

if you dismantle it down to the number wheels you can see how to do it quite easily. Its quite basic but just be careful and don't loose any little bits. Take pics as you go so you can see how it goes back together.

[/FerrisBeuler] As sunbuilder says it'd probably be quite easy on the Imp speedo. Likely to be small pawls that pull the numbers round one at a time as the speedo cable normally rotates things. By carefully pulling the pawls back you can run the mileage wheels round one at a time. Something like that anyway. 'Clocking' was not a particularly difficult art to master in the old days....

I;ve adjusted the mileage reading on a micra clock set by rotating the wheels round in the direction they would turn in use, using a long pointed pair of compasses, the wheels clicked round quite easily that way.

Did ours with a drill after the re build. Strip it apart and mount a drill on the spline. Job done

I imagine your dials are Smiths units...?! I can't imagine it being too difficult to get inside and fiddle with things...!!! Having said that I've never done it so I can't be sure... On the other hand though, 'clocking' was prolific quite some time ago so I can't imagine it being that hard...!!!
As already mentioned though is there any point in setting things to the big ZERO...?! I'm sure all those little 0's will come round soon enough of their own accord...!!!
Anyhow, please do let us know how you get on with this fantabulous little motor...
