Howdy.
My mk2 cav has a disgusting clunk from somewhere on the drivers side suspension that occurs when going over a bump or when turning LEFT. Never when turning RIGHT though.
Has literally just passed its mot of which a ball joint was replaced which I hoped would have sorted it but it's still there.
Are there any suggestions before I get my hands dirty? Leaning towards strut top...
Would be lovely not to grit my teeth and tense up every time I drive the thing!
Thanks

Is it lowered by any chance? There's a counter weight bolted onto the driver side wishbone that can hit against the floor on lowered Cavaliers. I used to have a 60mm drop but changed to 40mm due to this issue.

That makes a racket when it lets go...

Yeah it is lowered...
So if I were to unbolt the weight I will be clunk free? Will there be any detrimental effect to this?
Thanks

I can't see it making a huge difference to how the car drives if you take it off tbh.

Thanks for the advice.
Been told by two guys at work that the weight will be on the deiveshaft and that removing it will cause the car to "whip"...
I don't know what this means. Shed any light on it?

There is a weight on the driveshaft but that's not the one that will be hitting the floor. There is a second weight bolted on top of the driver side lower arm / wishbone which is the one you want to look at.
If your unsure which bit to remove have a look at the passenger side wishbone for comparison.

Upon closer examination it appears to be the wishbone itself hitting the underside of the car making the noise.
The passenger side seems to have adequate clearance not to clunk, but drivers side has very little gap for some reason.
Other than raising the suspension with longer springs/ shorter shocks etc or modifying the underside with a whacker, are there any other options?
In all honesty I would rather the car was even lower than it is so the idea of raising the suspension upsets me!

Has the rear bush not collapsed. It looks like its shifted back on the drivers side.
