Not including at shows (that's a bit different) Do you feel proud that someone wants a piccie of your car or a bit paranoid that there maybe an ulterior motive? Came out of my local supermarket this afternoon to find a lady next to the 924 with her phone out...she asked if she could take a few pictures of it for her car mad son? No probs I said and let her fire away, used to have it quite a lot with my old veedubs but never with the '24 which to me is a modern car! Anyway, proud or paranoid that some kinda ebay scam or whatever may happen?

I think most of the time I would be cool with it. If there was a chav in a tracksuit taking pics I might be concerned.

I love seeing people taking photos of my car! I can't really see how a photo could be used for crime - if someone wants to nick the car or clone the plate they wouldn't be whipping their iPhone out and taking photos, they'd be nicking the car.

I take photos of a lot of random people's cars. 1% of the time they swear at me. 99% of the time they seem flattered.

People take pictures, video, pointing, waving, laughing out loud. But it's a Trabant, so you learn to live with it or wear a balaclava.

I often* have scantily clad young ladies ask if they can drape themselves over the van to have their photos taken with it.
*often may be a over stating it somewhat

Yeah people take photos. It happens. People take photos of everything these days, even what they're having for dinner so I hear. Dunno what they do with all these pictures.

Driving a white american hearse tends to get me more than my fair share of pictures taken, even by traffic police when i had a 24' long car transporter trailer and a Carlton on the back of it, they were laughing as they past I do get a tad suspicious if some "odd" character is looking too closely at my Carlton though.

I get it a fair bit and I'm ok with it, I mean I do it myself if I see something cool, different, or just plain awful. It's all part of the scene, here's one I took earlier...

I see it as being part of something different. My old Saxo got more than its fair share but then I expected it to as a beaten up chav chariot with a chalk board bonnet.

I donĀ“t know the english registration system, but german plates give a clue where the car can be found - not in full detail but narrowing down the area. UK registrations only show the area the car was first registered in, so mine shows it is from the Oxfordshire area in the mid-1970s, but it's nowhere near there now. Unless a personalised registration is fitted to the car - that will still have a location component, but might not bear any relation to where the car is from, maybe just the owners initials.

Sometimes attention comes from people who wish they had done to a car what you might when i had a mini monster 4x4 truck spitting out flame when sat on motorway hold ups it seemed to be the mother driving, kids creating havoc in the back and down trodden dad in passenger seat looking on with envy. Even the 14 days of Reliant Robin ownership drew admirers but thats the novelty value. I am in this game an old timer but still look at proper cars , often say to an owner that sounds good etc a enthusiast to enthusiast comment we all give at some time. Two youngsters asked what my Range Rover V8 was which was good cos they werent eyeing it up or considering any unlawful act just genuinely interested in seeing an old motor.

I don't mind, as long as it's not done remotely by a yellow box on the road side, or from a barely visible van in a hidden layby. That said on the M6 last Sunday some clown was videoing me with a hand held camera whilst driving and overtaking, he turned round to film the front, slowing down in the process, and nearly ran me into the back of a wagon.

If I go out on a Friday or Saturday night I tend to use the same parking spot outside a club as the bouncer likes it and keeps an eye out. Came back one evening to find loads of people taking shots of the shed and posing next to it so stood back and waited before getting in. As I tried to drive away a girl started banging on the window and was getting very chatty about taking the top off and the car in general. I was tired and wanted to get home so was polite about it. Then regretted being in such a rush all the way home!

The only time I had problems with a car owner over images of their ride was when I was sketching at a show. He claimed that he as he'd built it, he owned the copyright to the car and I couldn't draw his car without permission. It may well have been his attempt at humour but I couldn't be bothered to argue the toss with him at the time so I just moved on to less annoying people's vehicles.
As it's now impossible to go anywhere in public without being filmed or photographed I can't see any reason to get your knickers in a twist over a member of the public taking a pic 'cause the y like your car. Thieves existed well before camera-phones and instagram. I would draw a line at taking pictures outside someone's house though.

I like taking pics of unusual cars when out and about for my Flickr album here; www.flickr.com/photos/route9autos/albums/72157625501743926/page1If you look through you will see that it would be pretty difficult to identify any addresses where the cars are kept and if I could see them from the road anybody with dodgy intentions can see them as well. All of those pictures there and only once has anybody contacted me to say they were unhappy. Dave.
